The Resilience of a “Werewolf” Dog

Have you ever come across an animal that, at first glance, completely baffled you? Meet the “werewolf” dog, a peculiar creature discovered in Madera Ranchos, California. With his patchy fur, emaciated frame, and a tail that appeared to be broken, this poor canine struck fear into the hearts of those who laid eyes on him. People called him “werewolf” because they simply didn’t know what kind of animal he was.

Month after month went by, and nobody dared to approach the mysterious “werewolf.” His scaly skin and balding patches only added to the belief that he was dangerous. Sadly, he was also visibly ill, which made people simply turn the other way when passing by.

But then, a ray of hope emerged. A compassionate soul decided to intervene and give this forlorn creature a chance at a better life. The woman who stopped to help knew that she couldn’t do it alone, so she reached out for assistance. That’s when Megan Bowe, the founder of Bowe’s Adoptable Rescued Pup, answered the call.

When Megan first laid eyes on the “werewolf” dog, she was overcome with sadness. It was clear that he was on the brink of collapse. “He was really on his last leg. He was depressed and could barely even stand up,” Megan revealed.

It turns out that this “werewolf” was, in fact, a German Shepherd mix who had been severely neglected and was suffering from a multitude of diseases. Megan immediately named him King and rushed him to a veterinary clinic.

Upon assessment, the veterinary team discovered that King had numerous ailments, but they decided to tackle each one step by step. Among his most pressing issues were scabies, a broken pelvis, and a broken tail that required surgical intervention.

“My vet thinks he got hit by a car, and that would explain how his tail was so messed up, too,” Megan shared. “That injury happened months ago because by the time I got him, it had already started to heal incorrectly. And with such a damaged pelvis, he wasn’t able to get around very far on his own to look for food, so he was extremely skinny and dehydrated.”

Despite his deteriorating health, King was just a year old. Due to the contagious nature of some of his diseases, Megan had to isolate him from the rest of the animals in her care. However, with each passing day, King’s appetite grew stronger, and he began to regain his strength.

Thanks to Megan’s unwavering dedication and the expert care provided by the veterinarians, King’s condition improved enough for him to undergo the vital surgeries on his pelvis and tail. And guess what? The operations were a resounding success!

While it took some time for King to learn to walk again, he prevailed with the support of Megan and the veterinary team. Against all odds, he defied his once-crippling injuries and stood proudly on his own four paws once more.

Now, Megan’s ultimate goal is to find a loving family who will embrace King and provide him with the forever home he deserves. “It’s hard to think that all those cars passed him by and never stopped. No one wanted to bring him home or help him because he looked so bad… But all it took was one person,” Megan reflected.

It’s heartwarming stories like this that remind us of the impact we can have when we lend a helping hand. The woman who called for help and Megan, who fearlessly stepped in, have made this world a better place—one rescue at a time.
