In the quiet town of Madera Ranchos, California, a peculiar creature that resembled a “werewolf” garnered attention from passersby. This poor dog stood on the side of the road near an orchard, with a mangy patch of fur, underweight and balding. It was a sight that no one wanted to confront, as the dog’s hard, scaly skin and damaged, sharp tail made it appear both dangerous and ill. People would avoid making eye contact, assuming the worst.

Fortunately, in a heartwarming turn of events, an angel in human form spotted the distressed pup and felt compelled to help. This caring woman, realizing the dog desperately needed assistance, made a phone call that would change everything. That call reached Megan Bowe, the founder of Adoptable Rescued Pup, an organization dedicated to saving animals in need. Megan recalls, “I was overcome with emotion when I saw the dire state of the dog. He was at the brink of total despair, depressed and struggling to even stand.”

Megan quickly discovered that the “werewolf” was, in fact, a german shepherd mix who had suffered from severe neglect and illness. She gave him the name King and wasted no time in taking him to a veterinary clinic. King’s health issues were many, but Megan and the dedicated team of physicians were determined to tackle each one. Several surgeries were needed to address his scabies, damaged pelvis, and broken tail. Megan suspects that King may have been hit by a car, as his tail and pelvis injuries indicated signs of past trauma. The poor dog’s inability to move freely had led to malnourishment and dehydration.

Despite his bedraggled appearance, King was young, only a year old. However, due to the contagious nature of some of his illnesses, Megan had to keep him separate from the other animals in her care. Providing him with nutritious meals and medical attention, King’s condition gradually improved. It was heartening to witness his appetite return, and soon he was gaining strength.

After much-needed surgeries and a remarkable recovery, Megan firmly believes that King is soon ready to find a forever home. Though it took time for him to regain his ability to walk, with the help of Megan and the veterinary team, he managed to stand tall once again. Megan’s only wish is for King to be embraced by a loving family and given the home he deserves.

Megan reflects on this heartwarming rescue, saying, “It’s hard to think that so many cars passed him by without stopping. No one wanted to bring him home or lend a hand because of his appearance. But all it took was one person.” It is through the compassion and actions of individuals like the woman who made the call, and Megan, who took the initiative, that our world becomes a better place.
