Woman who has been complaining of stomach pain and heartburn is astonished when doctors discover what is inside of her.

A doctor was startled to remove a startling 11,950 gallstones from inside an Indian woman – estimated to be a new world record.

Minati Mondal, 51, had been suffering from excruciating stomach discomfort and acid reflux for two months.

Two weeks ago, she was admitted to Debdoot Sevayan Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, in eastern India.

After doing tests and ultrasounds, physicians revealed she was suffering from a serious case of gallstones.

These are balls made of cholesterol and salts that form in the gallbladder, a tiny pear-shaped organ underneath the liver that stores bile.

But they did not anticipate finding such a big amount of stones.

Dr. Makhan Lala Saha, a gastrointestinal endo surgeon at the hospital, said he expected a high number of stones but was still startled when the amount exceeded the 5,000 level.

He removed roughly 12,000 stones in an hour-long laparoscopic surgery, when the surgeon accessed the inside of the abdomen and pelvis through a ‘keyhole’ cut, without having to create big incisions in the skin.

Dr Saha said: ‘I was startled to observe the high number of stones that we retrieved from the gall bladder of this patient.

‘I had never realized a gall bladder could house so many stones.

‘It took my assistants four hours to count the quantity of the stones that were between 2mm and 5mm in size. It took us 50 minutes to remove them.’

The doctor has written to the Royal College of Pathologists in London to preserve the item in the museum.

And it is now anticipated the massive amount of gallstones removed could be a new world record.

Dr. Saha added: ‘Two months ago, I had operated on a female who had 1,110 stones but despite the terrible figure, I found that in 1983, doctors in Britain had removed 3,110 stones from a German patient’s gall bladder.

Since the current figure is three times higher than the record, though, I believe it is possible for it to take the place of the previous record.

Ms. Mondal was released from the hospital two days ago, and she is currently recuperating at her residence.

WHAT EXACTLY Are These Gallstones?

The gallbladder is a small organ in the abdomen that looks like a pear and stores bile. Gallstones are formed in the gallbladder when cholesterol and salts crystallize in the gallbladder.

The liver produces bile, a liquid that is stored in the gallbladder and later released into the digestive system. Bile ducts are the small tubes that transport bile from the liver to the gallbladder and then into the digestive system.

Gallstones can be present in a person’s body without causing any symptoms; however, if they begin to obstruct the gallbladder, this can lead to excruciating pain, nausea, and an infection that could be fatal.

They are also able to obstruct the passage of bile out of the gallbladder and liver, which can result in a buildup of bile that leads to jaundice.

Even though gallstones are quite frequent, the chance of developing them can be increased by eating a diet high in fat, particularly among women. The reason for this is not entirely understood.
