Tragic Loss: Rare Complication Claims Life of Mom During Childbirth

When women give birth, we often forget how vulnerable they can be. Despite advances in medical science, many things can still go wrong. Unfortunately, this family experienced a heartbreaking loss due to a rare complication. Read on to learn more.

Kelli Tyler, a vibrant mother from Oklahoma, was eagerly anticipating the arrival of her fifth child. Excited about becoming a mother for the seventh time, she frequently shared updates on her pregnancy with her followers.

However, shortly after giving birth to her sixth child, tragedy struck. Kelli unexpectedly lost her life due to a rare complication.

The day before her passing, Tyler changed her Facebook profile photo to reflect her upcoming joy of motherhood. Little did she know that her life would be cut short.

“The amniotic fluid entered Kelli’s bloodstream, causing her to lose more blood than her body could handle,” explained Julie Roach, Tyler’s mother. “The last words my granddaughter heard were, ‘I’m about to faint.'”

Amniotic fluid embolisms are a “dangerous and life-threatening complication” that can occur during or shortly after childbirth, according to the Cleveland Clinic. This condition is difficult to diagnose as its symptoms can mimic other serious childbirth complications.

For reasons that remain largely unknown, some individuals have a severe allergic response when amniotic fluid mixes with their blood. This can result in cardiac arrest, breathing difficulties, or even lung failure.

“Kelli would briefly regain consciousness and then code again,” recalled Roach, describing her daughter’s final moments.

At that very moment, Kelli’s daughter, Jalie, was being born. It is uncertain whether Jalie’s difficult birth will have any long-term health implications. This information will only be revealed as she grows older.

“Jalie won’t have the chance to know her mom in person, but she will know who her mom was. We have pictures, we have recordings that we will play over and over,” Roach said.

In order to assist with unexpected medical expenses and ongoing care for the newborn and family during this difficult time, a GoFundMe fundraiser has been set up. Remarkably, the fundraiser has already tripled its initial goal in just one week.
