Toby Keith Performs for the First Time Since Sharing His Cancer Diagnosis
Over the weekend, Toby Keith performed two lengthy concerts at Hollywood Corners in Norman, Oklahoma. Each performance lasted longer than two hours.
The performances are Keith’s first since he revealed in June 2022 that he had stomach cancer and that he had spent the previous six months enduring chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery.
The country singer may be seen in several YouTube clips from his weekend performances singing his classics “Made in America,” “I Love This Bar,” and “Dream Walking.” In addition to Scotty Emerick, a longtime friend and partner, Keith performed with his Easy Money Band.
Given Keith’s strong support of the American military, the concerts were held right before the Fourth of July holiday. He is well-known for songs like “American Soldier” and “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American),” which he penned and recorded in the wake of the terrorist attacks against the United States on September 11, 2001.
Keith took a hiatus from recording and touring in 2022 to concentrate on his fight against cancer. He provided an update on his health and said he planned to resume performing soon in an interview with The Oklahoman newspaper in June 2023, conducted before his yearly Toby Keith & Friends Golf Classic.
Keith declared, “I’m feeling pretty good.” In general, everything is moving in a positive direction. With cancer, you can never be too prepared.
I’ve got more wind, he added. And I’m considering setting up shop with the band and performing somewhere for two or three days to see if I can make it through two hours. If that went well, he hoped to be on the road in the fall.
