The woman who arrived to the ER with a severe stomach ache

An Indian doctor believes he was at the pinnacle of his profession when he had to remove 11,950 gallstones from a patient. Isn’t it possible that this is a world record?

A woman went to the hospital after experiencing excruciating stomach pains. The doctor thoroughly examined her to determine the problem, but he was taken aback.

In a landmark surgery, Dr. Makhan Lala Saha, a gastrointestinal endo surgeon, had to remove stones from Minati Mondal’s gall bladder.

Mondal has been experiencing continuous stomach aches for more than two months. Doctors discovered she had severe gallstones after she was brought to the hospital.

Dr. Saha performed the surgery on the woman and stated that he expected to find a significant number of stones but was surprised that the number topped 5,000. The operation took roughly an hour, and the nurses spent more than 4 hours counting the retrieved stones, which ranged in size from 2mm to 5mm.

This quantity of retrieved stones may set a new world record. The doctor stated that he had done additional research and discovered that the only amount that came close was 3,110 stones removed from a German patient’s gall bladder in the United Kingdom in 1983.

The doctor, on the other hand, believes he has far exceeded this figure.

Mondal was released and returned home to recover from surgery.

Gallstones are tiny stones originating in the gallbladder and are usually formed of cholesterol. They are frequent in patients, affecting one out of every ten, but in most cases, they do not require treatment and have no symptoms.
