The health issues of Catherine Zeta-Jones are taboo subjects.

Catherine Zeta-Jones was diagnosed with bipolar disorder in 2011, and she sought treatment at a mental health facility at that time; nevertheless, ever since she completed her treatment, she has been reluctant to talk about her condition.

Her publicist had issued a statement at the time, which read as follows: “After coping with the stress of the past year, Catherine took the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a temporary stay in order to manage her bipolar II disease.”

Catherine went on to explain to The Telegraph that her mental health issues were brought on by the news that her husband Michael Douglas had been diagnosed with cancer.

She said, “[Bipolar] is something I have been dealing with for a long time. When you get sideswiped like that [with Michael’s illness], it’s an obvious trigger for your balance to be a little bit off – not sleeping, worry, stress. It’s a classic trigger.” Catherine’s husband Michael Douglas was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in

On the other hand, after spending some time in the clinic, the actress has been very upfront about the fact that she does not like talking about her mental health. She shared her thoughts on the matter with InStyle magazine, saying, “I’m not the kind of person who wants to shout out my personal difficulties from the rooftops, but with my bipolar becoming public, I hope fellow sufferers will know it’s controllable.”

She reiterated to The Telegraph that she did not wish for her mental health to be made public and that this was something she hoped would not happen. She was quoted as saying to the newspaper, “I never wanted to be as open about it as I was.” “I have a British stiff-upper-lip mindset — it wasn’t something I wanted to shout from the rooftops,” she said. “I have a British stiff-upper-lip mentality.”

Catherine restated her position when she was a guest on Good Morning America in 2012. She stated, “Do you know what? I am sick of talking about it, I never wanted to be the poster child for this, and I never wanted this to come out publicly.”

“But it ended up being said. She went on to say, “I dealt with it in the best manner I could, and that was by stating, ‘Look, hey, I’m bipolar.’”

She went on to say that everyone has issues that they are dealing with and that the best we can do is deal with them. We all struggle with different things in life, but I know that I am surrounded by wonderful people who will always have my back.
