At midday, I’d stop for lunch, park the tractor under a tree for shade, eat my lunch, and listen to Paul Harvey. Hearing his voice today sends me back to my childhood summers when my parents, brother, grandmothers, aunts, and uncles were all still alive and well. My heart yearns for those times.
Paul Harvey’s voice reached up to 24 million people per week from 1952 until 2008. The “Paul Harvey News” was distributed via 1,200 radio stations, 400 AFN stations, and 300 newspapers. Most people have certainly heard of his popular radio show “The Rest of the Story.”
America discovered a treasure in Paul Harvey. Generations of people listened to him not only for his stories and expertise but also for the calming effect of his comforting and easily recognized voice, which transported you to another world for a few seconds, testing and potentially permanently changing your way of thinking.
This man could teach you a lot about life if you only listened. Those were the days. Those times of introspection and earnest thought. I sometimes wonder if we do enough of that as individuals these days.
Paul Harvey, on the other hand, published an article that he revised multiple times over the years before launching his television career. It’s a provocative piece that may be interpreted symbolically or literally – it rings true either way.
