Well, not for Melissa Sloan, the British mom who’s practically a walking art gallery with over 800 tattoos. If you believe tattoos are forever, you’re in for a surprise.
This mom, a certified tattoo addict, decided to turn the tables (and heads) by covering up her facial ink for a photograph. The transformation was so jaw-dropping that even her own kids and dog didn’t recognize her!
Melissa’s journey with tattoos began about 10 years ago. The Daily Star reports that she’s committed to her extreme look, getting around three tattoos a week, either from her home or right in her trusty van. Talk about convenience!
Now, here’s the kicker: although she loves her ink, it has had significant consequences on her personal life. Five out of her seven children have cut contact with her, but her youngest kids are her biggest fans, rooting for her every tattoo session. It could be said that her colorful look has a clear division in the family’s taste preferences.
However, not everything is as vibrant as her tattoos. Melissa has faced hurdles, especially when it comes to finding a job, thanks to society’s incessant judgment. In her own words to the Daily Star: “I can’t get a job. They won’t have me. I applied for a job cleaning toilets where I live, and they won’t have me because of my tattoos.”
Her first and only job cleaning toilets didn’t last long, but Melissa’s spirit isn’t easily dampened. She’s ready to take on any job offer that comes her way. Still, the struggle is real, and it’s not just about work. She’s also missed out on social events, like Christmas parties and even being invited to her child’s school functions, often relegated to peeking through the back garden.
The experiment to cover up her tattoos was quite an adventure. “It took me ages,” she confessed in an interview. Armed with a £3 foundation bottle, she concealed her tattoos painstakingly for about half an hour. The reaction? Comical chaos! Her kids were freaked out, her partner was in a state of disbelief, and even the family dog did a double take.
“It scared her,” Melissa explained, referring to her youngest daughter’s response. The ink-free version of herself was so unrecognizable that it made her children uneasy. Ironically, it took her 24 hours to remove the thick foundation that replaced her tattoos temporarily.
Despite fierce initial reactions, Melissa gave the tattoo-free look another go. Unfortunately, the second time wasn’t the charm either. Her kids insisted, “Go back to your craziness, mom,” treating her temporarily tattoo-free self as a stranger. When the foundation came off, the household returned to its usual vibrant self.
Armed with a ‘proper’ tattoo foundation, Melissa managed to achieve a more natural look. But let’s be honest, it was like layering on thick cement, as she described.
The online community leaned towards her more natural appearance, with viewers complimenting her makeup look. Yet, Melissa marches to the beat of her own drum. “People said I looked beautiful the way I was before – but I like it crazy,” she quips.
