Heartbroken Gary Sinise mourns the sudden death of his son, Mac

It brings us great sadness to share the tragic news of the passing of McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, the beloved son of actor Gary Sinise. At the age of 33, Mac bravely fought against cancer but unfortunately lost his battle on January 5th.

In a heartfelt statement, Gary revealed that Mac had been diagnosed with Chordoma, a rare form of cancer, in August 2018. This devastating news came just months after Gary’s wife, Moira Harris, received her own diagnosis of stage three breast cancer.

Throughout his difficult journey, Mac remained resilient and continued to pursue his passion for music. He joined the Gary Sinise Foundation as an assistant manager of education and outreach, showcasing his talent as a drummer in the Lt. Dan Band, alongside his father. Mac’s creativity and dedication to his craft shone through his studies in songwriting and composition at the University of Southern California.

Despite facing numerous spine surgeries and paralysis from the chest down, Mac’s spirit remained unbroken. Just before his passing, he completed work on an album titled “Resurrection & Revival,” displaying his unwavering determination and artistic talent.

Gary’s heartfelt message expressed the indescribable grief of losing a child. He understands the pain that many families have endured and empathizes with their suffering. The Sinise family’s battle against cancer lasted for 5 ½ years, during which they witnessed Mac’s unwavering courage and resilience. He fought tirelessly against an incurable cancer, refusing to give up.

Mac’s legacy lives on through his family, who are dedicated to honoring and remembering him. Gary is committed to preserving Mac’s memory by releasing his album, “Mac Sinise: Resurrection and Revival,” on vinyl.

As we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Sinise family, let us remember Mac’s bravery and passion for life. His memory will forever inspire and uplift all those who had the privilege of knowing him.
