Goldie Hawn Refers to Kurt Russell as Her “Husband,” But They’re Happily Unmarried

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together for decades, but marriage is not on their agenda. In a 1991 appearance on the “Oprah Winfrey Show,” Hawn teased the idea of marrying Russell but made it clear that they were not actually married.

During the interview, Oprah Winfrey asked Hawn about calling Russell her husband and whether they had a secret wedding. Hawn admitted that they had a small ceremony, but it wasn’t a traditional marriage ceremony. She said, “Well, we had a little ceremony, but it wasn’t a marriage ceremony. No, God, no. We’re far, far too together for that.”

At the time, Hawn and Russell had been together for seven years, and Russell had even given Hawn a beautiful ring to commemorate their time together. Hawn explained that she called him her husband because they were still figuring out what to call each other, and “husband” felt right.

Hawn and Russell both expressed that they didn’t feel the need for a piece of paper to define their love. Hawn said, “For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have.” They believe that love and commitment go beyond a legal document.

Both Hawn and Russell had previous marriages before they found each other. Hawn was previously married to Gus Trikonis and Bill Hudson, with whom she shares children Oliver Hudson and Kate Hudson. Russell was married once to Season Hubley and has a son named Boston. Together, Hawn and Russell have a son named Wyatt Russell.

Despite their children getting married, Hawn and Russell feel no pressure to tie the knot. They believe that the success of a relationship is not determined by marriage but by the willingness of both parties to stay together. Hawn emphasized that it’s not about the institution of marriage, but about the connection between two people.

In a sweet Instagram post celebrating Russell’s 70th birthday, Hawn expressed her love for him and their unconventional bond. She wrote, “Happy birthday, baby! What a wild ride. No, we never got married, but one thing that continues to grow is our love. You’re a wild one, brilliant, lovable, childlike, perfectly maddening, a father supreme, and deeply funny.”

When asked about her first impression of Russell on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” Hawn said she was attracted to him but was especially drawn to the way he interacted with her children. She found his connection with kids to be special and heartwarming.

While Hawn and Russell remain happily unmarried, Hawn’s daughter Kate Hudson has recently gotten engaged to Danny Fujikawa. Kate announced the exciting news on social media, signaling her willingness to give marriage another try.

Hawn and Russell’s love story is a testament to the fact that marriage is not the only path to a fulfilling and long-lasting relationship. They choose to prioritize their love and commitment to each other without the need for a legal bond.
