German Shepherd Rescued After Being Found in Canyon with Mouth Zip-Tied Shut
Imagine hiking through the serene trails of Malibu Creek Canyon, anticipating the typical flora and fauna, and then encountering a distressed German shepherd with his mouth zip-tied shut. Quite the plot twist, right? This is exactly what happened to two rock climbers on July 3, who turned into unexpected heroes that day.
Picture this: You’re out for a rock climb, enjoying the great outdoors, when you stumble upon a 7-year-old German shepherd in dire need. His muzzle is cruelly bound with a zip tie, making it clear that this wasn’t an ordinary trail adventure.
Our brave hikers took a moment to earn the dog’s trust, slowly and cautiously approaching him to remove the tight zip tie. Ah, the sweet relief. With his mouth finally free, the dog’s transformation was immediate. He began warming up to his rescuers and gratefully accepted food from their hands.
Jonathan Manaoat, one of the hikers, spoke warmly of the dog, emphasizing his gentle nature: “He is such a sweet dog. He allowed my friend and I to pet him and he gently ate our food out of our hands.”
The gravity of the situation wasn’t lost on them. The fact that someone had intentionally put this poor animal in such a predicament was appalling. “Someone did this intentionally,” Manaoat confided. “They left him stranded, down a hill in the middle of nowhere off the side of the road. They left him suffering. They left him for dead.”
The story doesn’t end there. The poor canine showed signs of further mistreatment. He had inflammation and warts scattered across his body, and it’s suspected that he had a run-in with poison oak as well. Talk about having a rough day!
Now, as if rescuing a distressed dog wasn’t heroic enough, these hikers’ actions have catalyzed a search for the individual responsible for this cruel act. While authorities are on the case, the rescued German shepherd is now receiving the care and attention he truly deserves.
