For the first time in 16 years, Madeleine McCann’s sister speaks up in a moving tribute.

One of those who gathered to light candles on the 16th anniversary of Madeleine McCann’s dramatic abduction was her younger sister.

Amelie McCann, who hasn’t been seen publicly since she was a toddler, appeared in Rothley, Leicestershire, England, with her parents, Kate and Gerry, and a large group of well-wishers. Sean, her identical twin, was not present.

It’s hard to imagine Madeleine vanished mysteriously from a vacation apartment in Portugal in 2007—16 years have passed since then. Madeleine’s parents have consistently argued that she was kidnapped after leaving her and her brothers alone to eat alone at a nearby eatery.

There are still many theories about what truly happened in the case that attracted the attention of the entire globe because it has never been solved.

Kate and Gerry McCann released an emotional message ahead of the 16th anniversary of the young girl’s disappearance: “Still missing…still very much missed. Finding the right words to express our feelings is difficult.

“The police investigation continues, and we await a breakthrough,” they added. “I appreciate everyone’s support. It means a lot.”

The Daily Express reports that Madeleine’s family gathered in Rothley, where they live, last evening to burn lights in her honor.

It was the first time in more than a decade that her younger sister Amelie had been depicted in a photo. Amelie, now 18 years old, had long blonde hair and could provide insight into what Madeleine would look like today.

Amelie stated, “It’s good that everyone is here with us, but it’s a sad occasion. At a military memorial, she also lit a candle in honor of Maddie and the other kids who had gone missing.

Around 70 people in the crowd chanted slogans like “Never never give up,” “Leave no stone unturned,” “Don’t forget about me,” and “Still missing, still missed.”

Naturally, Madeleine’s family continues to hold out hope that she may still be alive.

Maddie was three years old when she vanished, and what happened to her is still one of the most puzzling mysteries in recent memory. Following the assertion that she was the missing girl by a 21-year-old Polish woman, interest in her case has recently increased once more.

After sensationally claiming to be Madeleine McCann and demanding a DNA test to confirm it in February, Julia Wendell went viral.

In the end, a test revealed that she was not, but Wendell’s assertions reminded the world that there is still a possibility—however remote—that Madeleine is still alive.

German investigators declared in 2020 that they believed Madeleine was killed after being kidnapped, and they identified Christian Brueckner, a convicted sex offender in his native country, as a leading suspect.

Our entire community is currently praying for and thinking of the McCann family.
