I asked my brother to type this story for me because it’s something that happened to me recently. Let me tell you, it was quite an experience.
So, there I was, entering a cafe with my blind cane when suddenly it hit something. Next thing I know, I hear a woman’s voice shouting at me, accusing me of hitting her son. I immediately apologize, explaining that I didn’t see him because, well, I’m blind.
But this entitled mother wouldn’t have any of it. She insisted that I was faking my blindness and claimed that her son deserved to play with my cane more than I did. And before I knew it, her son snatched my cane right from my hands. I felt so helpless without it.
Luckily, someone came to my rescue. It was the waiter who had witnessed the entire incident. With a swift movement, he confronted the entitled mother and escorted her and her misbehaving child out of the cafe, much to the surprise of everyone present.
Once the commotion settled down, the waiter returned to my table with a sympathetic expression on his face. He apologized for what I had to go through and offered to get me anything I wanted, free of charge. I thanked him for his kindness, but politely declined his offer. Still, his gesture meant the world to me.
In a world where entitlement often goes unchecked, it’s comforting to know that there are still people like the waiter who are willing to stand up for what’s right. That day, as I left the cafe, I felt a renewed sense of faith in humanity, knowing that even in the face of adversity, there are individuals like the waiter who restore our faith in kindness and compassion.
