Courteney Cox Admits ‘Bad Memory’ Caused Her Not To Remember Much From ‘Friends’

Some might think that for a cult classic like “Friends,” the actors who played the show’s iconic characters could remember everything that happened on set or behind the scenes. But it turns out that this is not the case. Courteney Cox, one of the show’s stars, claims she has no recollection of filming many of her scenes.

Cox rose to fame as Monica Geller on the hit sitcom “Friends,” which ran from 1994 to 2004. Cox remained a major player in Hollywood even after the series ended. She appeared in the television series “Dirt” and “Cougar Town,” as well as numerous films, including the “Scream” franchise.

Aside from her acting career, Cox is well-known for her friendship with “Friends” alum Jennifer Aniston. They frequently express their appreciation for one another’s work.

Cox was married to fellow actor David Arquette for over 11 years in her personal life. In June 1999, the couple married, and in 2004, they had a daughter named Coco Arquette. Coco resembles her mother’s twin now that she’s grown up.

Unfortunately, Cox’s relationship with David did not last, and the two divorced in 2013 after three years apart. Despite this, they remain close friends and business partners in their production company, Coquette Productions.

Cox is well-known for her stunning appearance and is frequently in the spotlight. Even though she is stunning, she has not been immune to the Hollywood pressure to look young. This prompted her to seek cosmetic procedures, such as facial fillers, which resulted in an almost unrecognizable appearance. After some time, the actress decided to dissolve the fillers, and now has a much more natural appearance.

Despite the success of “Friends,” Cox struggled with being the only one of the six main stars from the show not to be nominated for an Emmy, and she later shared her feelings on the matter. Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, and Matt LeBlanc were all nominated for an Emmy Award during their time on the hit sitcom over its ten seasons.

During an interview with Howard Stern back in 2021, the women from “Friends” sat down to talk about their time on the show, and Cox revealed more about her Emmy snub.

“It hurt my feelings when every other cast member was nominated except me,” the actress admitted. “The only thing that made me feel good – because they’ve all won and they’ve gotten so many accolades – I got nominated for ‘Cougar Town’ the first year for a Golden Globe. I want to say, ‘Yeah, who cares?’ (but) it meant everything to me,” she added.

Thankfully, Cox’s former co-stars and current friends always believed in her. “You were brilliant,” Aniston said to her.

Cox even felt guilty about being nominated for a different award in front of Aniston and Kudrow. “The three of us were in my house in Santa Monica and I got nominated for a People’s Choice Award,” Cox said. “I remember thinking, ‘Oh, I feel horrible.’ Cut to: There you have it. Shouldn’t have felt bad.”

Regardless of the competition in the acting world, the women stayed bonded. “We were so excited,” Aniston said about Cox’s nomination. “And I’ll never forget it came through your fax machine upstairs.”

In 2021, Cox finally received an Emmy nomination for “Friends,” albeit for “Friends: The Reunion.”

Through it all, Cox has continued to find herself in an ever-changing world and has grown more and more confident as the years progressed.

But in an interview with Willie Geist on TODAY’s “Sunday Sitdown” in March 2022, Cox revealed that her memories of filming the comedy series weren’t as clear as many people would think. At one point during the interview, Cox joked that she should have rewatched the show before she made an appearance on the reunion special — which came out in 2021 — because she could not remember having filmed so many episodes.

“I should’ve watched all ten seasons because when I did the reunion and was asked questions, I was like, ‘I don’t remember being there,’” she said. “Yeah. I don’t remember filming so many episodes,” she added.

Cox said she couldn’t remember some of the scenes from the show that would appear on the screen whenever they suddenly popped up on her television.

“I see it on TV sometimes, and I stop and go, ‘Oh my God, I don’t remember this at all,'” she revealed. “But it’s so funny.”

Cox was also asked in the same interview why she doesn’t remember much of what she did from the show, to which she explained that she had a “bad memory.”

“It’s really basic,” she remarked. “I don’t remember any trauma in my childhood, but I have, like, three memories. I don’t know. I don’t know why.”
