Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, and Other Coaches on “The Voice” and Their Seasonal Pay

You won’t believe the highest-paid coach.

The Voice has had over a dozen coaches since it first aired in 2011, ranging from pop hunks like Nick Jonas to country crooners like Blake Shelton. The Voice wages and how much coaches get per season on the NBC show aren’t the same because each judge (and contestant) is unique. Shelton is the only coach who has worked on The Voice for all 19 seasons, so it stands to reason that he makes the most money. That doesn’t mean, though, that the other coaches make nothing.

From Alicia Keys to Adam Levine, every judge on The Voice has had a prestigious career. Despite not producing any huge names (like, for example, American Idol), The Voice has successfully secured top-tier talent for its coaches.

Levine discussed how The Voice transformed Maroon 5’s career and elevated him to stardom in 2019 on Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. He remarked, “I think I was young, and it was a different time when the band made [first album Songs About Jane] and had that all going on,” noting that “not everyone had a camera on them at all times and you enjoyed a certain kind of privacy.”

The appearance of The Voice and other events further altered it. It propelled me into the peculiar realm of becoming, for lack of a better term, a household name. Find out below about The Voice coaches salaries and their season earnings.

What are The Voice salaries?

What are The Voice salaries and how much do coaches make per season? Read on for what The Voice salaries are for coaches like Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and more, and how much they made.

Blake Shelton (Season 1 – 23)

Salary: $13 million per season

It’s unknown how much money Shelton made during his first season on The Voice, but The Wrap reported in 2016, right before The Voice season 10, that Shelton had inked a contract with NBC for $13 million each season. Given that The Voice has two seasons per year, Shelton earns an amazing $26 million annually—and possibly more if he has since 2016 signed a new contract. Shelton and his fiancée Gwen Stefan reportedly received “an exceptional bonus to keep the spark alive on-camera” in 2019, according to Celebrity Insider. The source added that Shelton and Stefani’s pay is now “significantly higher” than the other coaches’ pay due to the raise.

Adam Levine (Season 1 – 16)

Salary: $14 million per season

Levine was an original coach on The Voice, just like Shelton. He quit after season 16, but according to a 2016 article in The Wrap, he had signed a contract to make the same amount of money as Shelton: $13 million per season ($26 million annually). The Hollywood Reporter, however, asserted that Levine’s pay was considerably higher after he left The Voice, at over $14 million per season and about $30 million annually.

Christina Aguilera (Season 1 – 3, 5, 8, 10)

Salary: $12.5 million – $17 million per season

Aguilera earned $17 million a season as a Voice coach in season three, according to a 2014 report from The Wrap (much more than Levine and Shelton). The “Genie in a Bottle” singer left after that season, but she returned in season 5 and, per The Wrap, took a pay reduction. According to The Wrap, she made $12.5 million per season from that point on.

CeeLo Green (Season 1 – 3, 5)

Salary: $2 million – $6.5 million per season

CeeLo was one of the OG coaches of The Voice. He left after season 5, claiming that the show “quickly became a job.” Money Nation reported that the singer made $2 million for his first season, which makes sense given that he was less of a household name as the other coaches. By the time he left, though, CeeLo was able to receive a raise, which made his paychecks $6.5 million a season.

Gwen Stefani (Season 7, 9, 12, 17, 19, 22)

Salary: $13 million per season

According to CinemaBlend, Stefani was paid $10 million a season as a Voice coach when she joined the show in season 7. Although she and Shelton agreed to play up their affection for the cameras, the No Doubt singer received a $5 rise in season 12, making her compensation $13 million per season. Although it’s unknown exactly how much Stefani was paid by The Voice to return as a coach for season 17, according to Celebrity Insider, she and Shelton received a raise for displaying their relationship on-screen. As a result, likely, she and Shelton make somewhere around the $15 million level.

Kelly Clarkson (Season 14 – 21, 23)

Salary: $15 million per season

According to Radar Online, when Clarkson made her Voice coaching debut in season 14, she agreed to accept a salary of $15 million per season, or $28 million annually. Although it’s unknown if the “Since U Been Gone” singer has since received a raise (she has won three seasons), if she has, her salary may be the highest of any coach on The Voice.
