Rhys and his friend embarked on this adventure with excitement, hoping to create an unforgettable New Year’s experience. And it turned out to be far more incredible than they could have imagined.

At the break of dawn, as the sun painted the sky with hues of gold and orange, Rhys stumbled upon a rare and mesmerizing phenomenon known as the Broken Spectre. Capturing the moment with his camera, he discovered a figure walking amidst the clouds, surrounded by a captivating circular rainbow of light.

A rare phenomenon captured: The Broken Spectre

This otherworldly occurrence happens when the low sun shines from behind a person gazing into the mist from a higher point. The person’s shadow is projected forward, casting a silhouette against the rainbow, creating the illusion of someone walking among the clouds.

Reflecting on this extraordinary experience, Rhys shared, “Despite the cloudy conditions and only a 50/50 chance of seeing the sunrise, we decided to proceed. I reached the summit and started taking pictures around 8:15 am. It was about an hour later when my friend arrived that the Broken Spectre appeared. It was pure luck, perfect timing.”

While luck played a role in capturing this magical moment, Rhys’ photograph serves as a testament to the incredible beauty and wonder of the natural world. As we embrace the new year ahead, let’s appreciate the captivating moments that life has in store for us.
