Let’s talk about something that most people do but no one ever admits to – peeing in the shower.
Now, before you start clutching your pearls, hear me out. We are NOT here to judge you. Nope, we understand there’s a legion of shower pee-ers out there, and it’s about time we acknowledged it.
If you were hoping for some solidarity, you’re not alone. According to Shape Magazine, a staggering 80% of people admitted they pee in the shower. Yes, you read that right, and we are part of that high statistic – although our legal team advises us to neither confirm nor deny it.
Is Peeing in the Shower Actually Harmful?
This seemingly harmless habit might be a staple of your morning routine, but guess what? Some doctors are urging women to stop. The nerve, right?
Just listen to Dr. Alicia Jeffrey Thomas, star of TikTok and known by her handle @scrambledjam. Yep, she’s here to burst the bubble with a splash of reality and a dose of medical insight.
Our dear Gynecologist, Dr. Stacey Picart, doubles down on this. She cautions that if your pelvic floor muscles are tight and don’t let your bladder empty completely, you could be signing yourself up for a recurring membership to the UTI club.
Training Your Bladder: Not as Fun as it Sounds
Consider this. If you make a habit out of peeing in the shower when you don’t really need to, you’re essentially coaching your bladder to tap out at lower volumes. In simpler terms, that means you’ll be struggling to hold on when nature calls at inconvenient times.
Worse, you might start hearing the gentle trickle of a running tap and suddenly find yourself in a desperate race to the bathroom. Sound absurd? Maybe. But, that’s the kind of conditioning you’re risking.
Well, Here’s My Two Cents
Personally, I’m not losing sleep over this. My bladder gets its workout during long family car trips and every moment I’m stuck in traffic. You’re not going to lose your bladder control over the occasional shower pee.
Does this tiny habit really outweigh the myriad quirks we all possess? I think not. Let’s take this piece of advice with a grain of salt and focus on what brings us joy – Warm showers, clean stalls, and a cascade of water washing away the day’s worries. And the comment section from Dr. Jeffery’s TikTok? Let’s just say the reactions were golden (and a little funny!).
What do you think? Drop your thoughts below! Do you side with the doctors, or do you think this piece of advice can circle the drain?
Always eager to hear from our lovely readers, don’t hold back! We’re here to talk and maybe laugh a little too. Stay healthy and happy, folks!
