Soaring on Wings of Faith: The Renewed Strength Found in God’s Hope

Ah, my dear friends, let me start by saying that if you’re looking for some quick flick of amusement or just passing by, you might as well stop reading now. That’s right, scroll away because what I’m about to share is for those who want to dive deep into the well of wisdom and find the true source of strength and endurance. Now, if that scares you away, so be it. But I have a strong suspicion that you’re still here, and that’s because a deep part of you hungers for something greater, something that transcends the trials of day-to-day life.

Isaiah 40:31 is one of those verses etched into the very fabric of my being. “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” Oh, what a promise, what a declaration! Let me tell you, I’ve lived 60 years on God’s green Earth, and this verse has walked with me every step of the way.

Strength in the Midst of Trials

Now, let’s chew on this a bit. What does it mean to “hope in the Lord”? Is it merely a pleasant thought, a warm fuzzy feeling? No, my fellow brothers and sisters, it’s far deeper than that. To hope in the Lord is to lean on Him when the ground beneath you shakes and to trust Him when the storm clouds gather. It means that no matter how fierce the trial, you believe He will come through.

You’ve got to remember, I’ve lived through some wild times. I’ve lived through wars, seen political upheaval, and weathered economic storms. There was a time when I lost my job and didn’t know how I’d put food on the table. I’ll never forget one night when I knelt by my bed, my knees weathered and sore, and cried out to God. In that very moment, it felt like a warm blanket of peace enveloped me. My situation didn’t change overnight, but my spirit did.

Hope in the Lord, my friends. It isn’t a crutch but a source of incomparable strength. It’s like an eagle rising above a thunderstorm, finding calm amidst chaos.

The Eagle, The Runner, and The Walker

This verse beautifully paints three different pictures—a soaring eagle, a tireless runner, and a committed walker. Each one of these metaphors speaks to different stages or aspects of our journeys. When it says we will “soar on wings like eagles,” it reminds me of times when our spirits are high, and the presence of God seems so real, you could almost touch it. Remember that feeling when God answered that deep-seated prayer of yours, and everything felt possible? That’s soaring on eagle’s wings!

But life isn’t always about soaring, is it? Then it talks about us running and not growing weary. This speaks to persistence, the day-to-day grind where we battle through life’s challenges. When my son went to the military, I felt both pride and worry. It was months of prayer and sleepless nights. But God’s hope kept me running without weariness. The load was heavy, but my feet kept moving.

And finally, “they will walk and not be faint.” Sometimes all we can do is put one foot in front of the other. My dear Margaret, God bless her soul, battled illness for years. Towards the end, it wasn’t about soaring or running; it was about taking one step, then another. And even in that slow walk, in that march through the valley, God’s strength never failed her or me.

A Humble Prayer

Let’s bow our heads, friends, and wrap up with a prayer. Almighty Father, You who give strength to those who hope in You, we come humbly before You, seeking your grace. For those who are soaring, give them vision. For those who are running, supply them with endurance. And for those who are walking in the shadow of trial, provide them unwavering fortitude. Bless us, Lord, and renew our strength as we put our trust in You. In Jesus’s name, Amen.

If you’ve made it this far, bless you. It tells me you’re one of the strong ones, the ones who seek deeper, who thirst for more of God’s wisdom and grace. Keep soaring, running, and walking, but above all, keep your hope in the Lord.
