Prince William’s New Title Raises Eyebrows

Prince William has been bestowed with a new title that has caught the attention of many. King Charles III recently announced that his eldest son would be named the Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. This decision has raised eyebrows, considering that it was Prince Harry who served with the unit in Afghanistan.

While it is reported that the role would have likely been given to Harry if he hadn’t stepped down from his royal duties, William has now taken on the position. Both princes are trained military pilots, but it was Harry who served in the Army Air Corps during his second tour in Afghanistan. William, on the other hand, served as a search and rescue pilot and later as an air ambulance pilot, though he was not involved in active combat.

“His Majesty the King will officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales,” announced Kensington Palace. This appointment is set to take place in August 2023, after King Charles III’s accession to the throne. The role has been held by the King himself, as Prince of Wales, for the past 31 years.

The announcement coincided with Harry’s arrival in the UK for the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games. Although there was speculation about whether he would meet with his father, a spokesperson for the duke confirmed that Harry would not be able to do so due to the King’s “full programme.” However, the duke understands his father’s commitments and priorities, and hopes to see him soon.

It is clear that Prince William’s new title has sparked interest, given the circumstances and the royal brothers’ respective military experiences. The future holds many changes for the British royal family, and these developments are sure to captivate both young and old audiences alike.
