The restored mansion from the film ‘It Takes Two,’ starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, was abandoned and demolished.

The Olsen twins are undoubtedly one of the most famous sets of twins in history. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are icons in the film, television, and fashion industries, having collaborated throughout their childhood and adulthood.

Ashley and Mary-Kate were born on June 13, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, California. They also have an older brother, Trent Olsen, and a younger sister, Elizabeth Olsen, both actors. From their father’s second marriage, the twins have two younger half-siblings.

When they were first cast to play Michelle Tanner on “Full House” in 1987, the lovely ladies were catapulted into stardom. As members of the Tanner family, the girls appeared frequently on the show and took turns delivering lines as the two played the same character.

Following their success on “Full House,” Mary-Kate and Ashley went on to star in several films together, showcasing their sisterly bond. They even run their own production company, Dualstar, which produced some of their most successful films, including “Double, Double, Toil and Trouble” and “Holiday in the Sun.” Even though the films were broadcast directly to television or video, they were extremely popular.

The twins also appeared in the 1995 film “It Takes Two,” which starred Kirstie Alley and Steve Guttenberg. With a plot similar to Mark Twain’s “The Prince and the Pauper,” the film was a hit with audiences. However, almost three decades later, an iconic piece from the film, the mansion, was destroyed.

Sharing the spotlight was once Mary-Kate and Ashley’s specialty, as being twins was one of the duo’s most intriguing facts. They collaborated on several film projects and even started their fashion line together later in life. Their collaboration has been instrumental in making their careers as unique as they are, and the two are both regarded as trailblazers for their work across multiple industries.

However, as they grew older, the twins’ focus shifted from acting and being in the spotlight to working more behind the scenes as businesswomen.

In 2012, both sisters announced their intention to retire from acting and pursue success in the fashion industry. “I don’t have to be a pretty face, I’ve done that, but now it’s important and liberating to be on the other side of the lens,” Ashley explained. “I no longer enjoy being the center of attention.”

“It doesn’t mean I’m not interested in Hollywood,” she continued. I like how it works, the people involved, and the sense of possibility. But if I ever return, it will not be as an actress.” Mary-Kate agreed, saying it “just felt right” to step away from the spotlight.

Nonetheless, the sisters recognized the power of numbers. “Separate side projects are fine, but we work better as a group,” Mary-Kate explained. In an interview with Allure in 2013, Mary-Kate and Ashley discussed their decision to leave acting and focus on being businesswomen in the fashion industry, which ultimately boiled down to not feeling like they could give their all or have “control” over the end product.

Today, both twins are extremely happy and proud of their career decisions and the success of their fashion lines. According to Mary-Kate:

“I believe we are perfectionists and hard workers, and we have always been hard workers. So I’m glad that people see it as a perfect product or as a product that feels complete or whole… It is our responsibility to find every flaw to constantly push ourselves, train our eyes, and ensure that everyone is served. “I’m just changing and learning.”

Fans, on the other hand, can’t help but remember all the great movies the Olsens made when they were younger, including 1995’s “It Takes Two.” Unfortunately, the mansion from the film has not survived.

CTV News reported in 2014 that the French-style home was listed for sale at $25 million in Toronto, Canada’s upscale “Millionaires’ Row” neighborhood. The current owners bought the house in 2002 and restored it with period pieces from the 1600s.

The mansion had 10 bedrooms and 14 bathrooms, as well as an indoor pool with a floor that converted into a ballroom, according to Talking Walls Photography. There was also a library, tennis court, recording studio, and wine cellar, among other amenities.

Unfortunately, that wasn’t enough to keep the mansion afloat. Nascond, a company, purchased the gated property in 2020. However, demolition equipment was brought to the estate in July 2022, and the mansion was demolished.

Although the mansion is no longer standing, it lives on in projects such as the TV show “Suits” and Olsens’ “It Takes Two.”
