The Father Of A Girl With Cancer Who Died In The American Airlines Disaster Shares A Text That Led Him To Believe Something Was Not Right

Daily Positive Information

A heartfelt and tragic story unfolded when a father revealed the distressing text that alerted him something was wrong, after he lost his wife and daughter in a devastating American Airlines disaster.

On a cold Wednesday evening, the 29th of January, just shy of nine o’clock, a catastrophic event occurred. A US Army Black Hawk helicopter collided midair with a PSA Airlines aircraft, operated by American Airlines.

The ill-fated Flight 5342 was on its final approach to Ronald Reagan National Airport, situated near Washington, D.C., when tragedy struck.

Debris from the helicopter and plane, which carried 60 passengers and four crew members, plummeted into the icy waters of the Potomac River.

It is believed that everyone on the helicopter and the commercial flight, including three individuals from the helicopter and 64 from the aircraft, perished. A recovery mission is still ongoing as hope fades.

Among the victims was a determined young girl and her mother, now deeply mourned by their family.

Andy Beyer, heartbroken by the loss of his 12-year-old daughter, Brielle, and his wife, Justyna, 42, shared his anguish with ABC News.

Beyer remembered his daughter who, from infancy, faced and overcame cancer with remarkable resilience. “She was just such a fighter in everything she did,” he described. “She embraced life to the fullest, cherishing each moment.”

In her short life, Brielle had set her sights on becoming a skilled figure skater. Proud of her accomplishments, she made it onto the national team, fulfilling a lifelong aspiration. “She was so proud of herself for what she had achieved,” Beyer fondly recalled.

The ominous sense that something was amiss came as Andy Beyer was on his way to the airport, accompanied by the couple’s 6-year-old son, ready to welcome his wife and daughter home.

“When their plane was due to land, there was nothing. No messages, no updates,” he remembered. The eerie silence felt ever more unsettling when a friend, an air traffic controller, mentioned something had gone wrong.

Anxiously watching emergency vehicles race along the runway only deepened his fears.

“I couldn’t muster much hope, sadly,” Beyer told ABC News. “In that vulnerable moment, my son and I shared tears, trying to brace ourselves for the unknown while we waited in the family room, a painful wait for any official news.”

Compassion from their community came in the form of a GoFundMe campaign, created by a friend to support the grieving family.

“In this tragic moment, we mourn the loss of 12-year-old Brielle and her loving mother, Justyna,” the page reads. “Their loss leaves a void that can never be filled, and we reach out to our community for solace and support during this exceedingly painful time.”
