Strictly’s Amy Dowden: Spreading Positivity and Gratitude during Cancer Treatment

Amy Dowden, the beloved star of Strictly, is not letting her cancer treatment dampen her spirits. In a heartwarming gesture, Amy expressed her gratitude for the overwhelming kindness shown by friends and fans as she battles this difficult illness. Through an Instagram video, she showcased a collection of thoughtful items that have been sent to her home.

But it doesn’t stop there. Amy also revealed that she was packing a bag in preparation for her chemotherapy appointment. Earlier this week, she bravely shared a post-surgery update, raising awareness about her journey.

In May, Amy announced her cancer diagnosis, and since then, she has been using her platform to raise awareness and encourage others to prioritize their health. Her most recent update featured a carousel of hospital photos, displaying her cheerful smile as she had a port fitted in her arm to facilitate chemotherapy.

Amy shared in her caption, “I’ve decided I want to share my chemo journey to help raise awareness, hopefully get others checking, and for understanding what we go through.” The port, she explained, sits under her skin, with a tube leading to her heart, providing a safe access point for chemo administration. Amy anticipates it will aid her greatly in the upcoming weeks and allow her to continue dancing when she feels well enough.

Messages of support poured in from Amy’s followers. One supporter sent a heartfelt message saying, “So much love Amy… Sending you huge love,” while Strictly judge Motsi Mabuse expressed her thoughts, saying, “Thinking of you. Sending love, and I am very sure you are inspiring and giving courage to everyone.”

Amy’s honesty about her breast cancer battle is nothing new. In July, she participated in an impromptu Q&A session on Instagram, shedding light on her mental well-being. When asked about her current state, Amy replied with a selfie and the words, “I’m up and down, but so grateful for those around me. I’ll never ever be able to thank enough. Still waiting to be able to drive and dance.”

Continuing her response, she added, “I’ve got so many amazing people around me who, every day when I’ve not been working, have taken me for breakfast, a walk, to the studio, hospital appointments, had me stay at theirs for a change of scenery… You name it. As someone who needs to keep going, those people know who they are, and I’m not sure I’d be as positive as I am now without them. They have been my recovery medicine, and it’s so important to have people around you can talk to and help you escape reality.”

Amy’s journey began in April when she discovered a lump in her right breast. After seeking medical advice, she received a diagnosis of grade three breast cancer. Since then, doctors have uncovered a second cancer, which means that in addition to a mastectomy, Amy will also require chemotherapy.

Amy’s strength and courage in the face of adversity is truly inspiring. She continues to spread positivity, express gratitude, and raise awareness about breast cancer, showing us all the importance of love, support, and unwavering determination to overcome any challenge.
