Remembering Jacklyn Zeman: A True Icon of General Hospital

Denise Alexander, a beloved cast member of General Hospital, is paying tribute to her dear friend and fellow actress, Jacklyn Zeman, who sadly passed away on May 9 after a brief battle with cancer. Zeman, who turned 70 just three days before her passing, had recently filmed her final episode of General Hospital, which aired on April 27.

In a heartfelt letter that was released by Soap Hub on May 15, Alexander expressed her deep sorrow and fond memories of Zeman. “Oh girl, I can’t stop crying because I keep hearing your voice and laughing,” wrote Alexander. “I have always loved and cherished your sweetness, humor, brilliance, and lovely goodness. The finest embraces, too. I will always love you.”

Denise Alexander first joined the General Hospital cast as Dr. Lesley Webber in 1973, while Jacklyn Zeman didn’t join until 1977, playing the role of Nurse Bobbie Spencer. Despite their late introduction to each other on the show, Alexander and Zeman developed a close friendship both on and off camera.

Not all of Alexander’s former castmates paid tribute to Zeman, but Anthony Geary, who portrayed Luke Spencer, did share an exclusive message with TVLine on May 11. Geary and Zeman’s characters shared a unique bond as siblings for over 40 years. In his tribute, Geary praised Zeman’s character and professionalism, highlighting her rare quality of never speaking ill of others in the highly competitive entertainment industry.

Frank Valentini, a soap opera executive producer, was the first to announce Zeman’s passing. He described her as a “bright light and true professional” who brought positive energy to the set. While her absence will be deeply felt, her upbeat attitude will always be remembered.

As news of Zeman’s passing spread, an outpouring of condolences flooded in from fans and her General Hospital TV family. She was remembered for her generosity, upbeat outlook, and ability to brighten even the toughest days. Her legacy will be cherished forever.

Laura Wright, who portrayed Carly Spencer, Zeman’s on-screen daughter, expressed her gratitude for the time she spent with the talented actress on Instagram. Wright praised Zeman’s captivating storytelling, infectious spirit, and remarkable life. Tamara Braun, who later played the role of Carly, joined Wright in honoring Zeman, sharing her own heartfelt tribute on Instagram.

Even Sarah Joy Brown, the first actress to play Zeman’s on-screen daughter, paid tribute to the late actress on Twitter. Brown described Zeman as beautiful both inside and out, and expressed her condolences to Zeman’s loved ones, colleagues, and fans.

Jacklyn Zeman will always be remembered as an icon of General Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of talent, kindness, and a contagious spirit that touched the lives of many.
