Prince William Reportedly ‘Made It Clear’ That Camilla Is Not a ‘Grandmother’ to His Kids

The new queen consort, Camilla Parker-Bowles, has been called many names over the years. First, she was called Gladys, then “the other woman,” and now wife to King Charles III.

Camilla is also mom to her two children, Laura and Tom, plus she’s grandmom to five grandkids. But one name she will never be called is “step-grandma,” at least not by Prince William and Kate Middleton’s kids.

Camilla married Charles in 2005 following decades of rumors the two were secretly together.

Eight years after Princess Diana died, Charles and Camilla received blessings from Queen Elizabeth to marry. And since then, Camilla has been a prominent member of the royal family.

It’s been no secret that Charles and Camilla had some form of relationship even while Charles was married to Princess Diana. So it’s understandable that William, Prince of Wales, and Harry, Duke of Sussex, have had to grow into a relationship with Camilla over the years.

She’s been a committed and hardworking royal since she officially married Charles, but still, William and Harry did set some clear boundaries.

Camilla isn’t ‘grandma’ or ‘step-grandma’ to William’s three kids.

According to royal author Angela Levin, Prince William has been very clear that even though Camilla has been married to his dad for nearly two decades, she will never replace his mom, the late Princess Diana.

In a new book titled Camilla: From Outcast to Queen Consort, Levin wrote that William made it clear where Camilla stood in his children’s lives. Of course, she’s talking about 9-year-old Prince George, 7-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 4-year-old Prince Louis.

The author shares that the royal kids know they only have one grandmother.

“William has made it clear that Camilla is the wife of his father, but not a step-grandmother to his children,” the royal author revealed, per InStyle.

In her book, the author also shared that Kate and William’s kids understand that they have “two grandfathers but only one grandmother.”

Camilla is friendly with Prince William and Prince Harry but knows not to overstep.

The author added, “William and Harry were 23 and 20, respectively, when Camilla officially became their stepmother in 2005.”

Instead of having a parental role, she took a different route.

“She was more of a friendly grown-up they saw occasionally at royal gatherings,” the author shared. “She tried to be encouraging rather than influential.”

The author notes that Camilla understands not being called ‘grandmother’ or ‘step-grandmother’ and doesn’t try to push.

“Nor has she tried to take over any responsibility as a step-grandmother to the Cambridges’ children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis,” the author wrote.

“Especially as Catherine’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, are so close.”
