Our thoughts and prayers go out to the great actor Patton Oswalt and his family for their tragic loss

After nearly a year has passed since Michelle McNamara, Patton Oswalt’s wife, passed away unexpectedly in her sleep at the age of 46, the comedian has disclosed the reason for her passing.

In a statement released to the Associated Press on Friday, the actor and comedian said, “We learned today the mix of medicines in Michelle’s system, together with a disease we were unaware of, proved devastating.”

Oswalt went on to say that the couple, who tied the knot in 2005, had “no idea” that she suffered from a malady that led to the narrowing of her arteries.

According to Oswalt, the mother of one passed away in April of 2016 as a result of the obstructions, in addition to the fact that she was taking the medicines Adderall, Xanax, and the pain medication fentanyl.

McNamara’s cause of death is still undetermined, according to Lieutenant David Smith of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, who spoke with the Associated Press.

Oswalt described the final evening he spent with his wife in an interview he gave in October to The New York Times. He speculated that it was possible that she had mistakenly overdosed on medication.

McNamara, who at the time was working on a book about a serial rapist and killer, was working long days and nights and was unable to sleep as a result of her worry and the nightmares that kept her awake at night.

Because he was so concerned about her wellbeing, Oswalt advised that she spend the night in bed and “sleep till you wake up.” On April 21, McNamara took a few Xanax pills before going to bed, and he did not wake up again.

Oswalt recalled having to get up early the following morning in order to help get their daughter Alice, who was seven at the time, ready for school, pack her backpack, and get her out the door.

He remembered that he had bought up an Americano coffee on the way home and then left it on McNamara’s bedside table at approximately 9:40 in the morning.

After a few hours had passed, he looked in on his wife to see if she had risen yet. She remained in bed and did not show any signs of life.

Her passing was confirmed by the responding paramedics at the scene. Oswalt stated that he believed the Xanax was to blame for the death, despite the fact that the coroner’s office had not yet determined a cause of death at the time.

In December, the man who had only one child at the time wrote an emotive piece about his first year as a single parent for GQ magazine.

“This is the first time that I have ever parented my child by myself. I forgot to turn in the school forms. I have neglected to stock the refrigerator with foods that she enjoys eating. I’m sorry, but I don’t have any more socks for her.

There are no more socks for me to wear. It was a pain, and it occurred repeatedly, but life went on nevertheless. The world kept spinning. I apologized and quickly repaired the problem before continuing to fumble my way ahead “Oswalt wrote.

“I’m going to keep going forward, looking stupid and awkward and unskilled at first, then ultimately getting it, until the next jolt comes, and the next level collapses out from under me until there are no more floors,” he said. “I’m going to keep going forward until there are no more floors.”
