Pattie Mallette, Justin Bieber’s mother, opens up about the difficult circumstances and decisions she was forced to make as a teen.

Mallette experienced sexual abuse before becoming pregnant, which she discusses in her new book, “Nowhere But Up The Story of Justin Bieber’s Mom.” Mallette told Gifford about the abuse, “I’ve learned that carrying shame and blame and feeling like there’s something wrong with you is normal and natural for anyone who has experienced sexual abuse. So I brought that.”

Mallette was so humiliated that she attempted suicide. She informed Gifford of the suicide attempt, “a culmination of, you know, years of abuse and pain, and at the time, I was messed up with all the drugs and alcohol. I was depressed, and the drugs and alcohol exacerbated it even more.”

Mallette became pregnant with Justin at 17 and was advised to abort the child. Of course, Mallette said that was not an option for her. “I just knew I couldn’t do it. I just knew I couldn’t do it. I knew I had to keep him, “Gifford was informed. “And do your best. I had no idea how I was going to pull it off. But I knew I couldn’t do it — I couldn’t abort. I had to give it my all. I needed to see what I could come up with. And I was determined to go to any length.”

Mallette said that hearing her son cry for the first time was like music to her ears. “I know it sounds strange, but he seemed to be singing. He did, “She stated. “It sounded like, ‘A hah, a hah.’ ‘Oh my gosh, it’s so precious and amazing,’ I thought. ‘All I want to do is squeeze him.'”
