Jamie Lee Curtis was moved to tears after receiving her first Academy Award nomination at the age of 64.

Jamie Lee Curtis’ illustrious acting career spans four decades. Despite being the daughter of two talented Hollywood movie stars, Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis, she initially did not want to be an actress.

Curtis was a student at the University of the Pacific when she decided to try her hand at acting, according to Biography.com. Curtis tried out for the role of Nancy Drew, the brilliant teenage detective. Curtis dropped out of college after not getting the part and only finishing one semester of college to focus on her acting career.

Curtis’ breakthrough role came in 1978, when he was 19 years old and played Laurie Strode in John Carpenter’s horror film “Halloween.” Although the award-winning actress is best known for her work in horror films, her dynamic acting abilities have helped her build a diverse portfolio of hit films in various genres.

Curtis’ most memorable films include “Knives Out,” “A Fish Called Wanda,” “My Girl,” and “Freaky Friday,” according to Movie Web.

Many would be surprised to learn that despite her extensive acting credentials, Curtis has never been nominated for an Academy Award, which many consider being one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an actress like her.

On the other hand, Curtis was taken aback when the 95th Annual Academy Awards nominations were announced on January 24, 2023, after finally receiving her first Oscar nomination at the age of 64.

Curtis took to Instagram to share her feelings with her fans worldwide, writing a heartfelt letter as she took in the huge announcement. Continue reading to find out how Curtis reacted to the news and why she was nominated in the first place.

Curtis cemented her place in the industry in 2022 when she appeared in one of the year’s biggest films, “Everything Everywhere All At Once,” alongside Michelle Yeoh, Ke Huy Quan, and Stephanie Hsu.

Curtis is one of the supporting characters in the film who stands in the way of the main protagonist, Evelyn Wong, played by Yeoh. Many consider her to be the story’s driving force; Curtis portrayed several versions of her character, including a loving wife, a distressed IRS auditor-turned-villain, and even an alien version of herself. As a result, many have praised Curtis for the breadth and range she displayed throughout the film.

Along with the hundreds of nominations for the film, Curtis was also nominated for her performance in the film. She has been nominated for 22 awards by various United States and United Kingdom organizations.

Curtis was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Motion Picture at the 2022 Golden Globes, her eighth nomination. She did, however, lose the Golden Globe to Angela Bassett. Despite this, the iconic actress was all smiles and cheers when her co-star Yeoh was announced as the night’s Best Actress.

When Yeoh’s name was announced, Curtis, who was right beside her, was candidly captured on camera wildly celebrating Yeoh’s win – which others have seen as a great example of women supporting women. Their incredible moment went viral on social media, inspiring hundreds of memes.

Curtis appears to be rooting for Yeoh again, as they both received their first Oscar nominations at 64 and 60, respectively.

Curtis and the main cast of “Everything Everywhere All At Once” was nominated for the main categories at the 95th Annual Academy Awards.

Yeoh received her first nomination at 60, becoming only the second actress of Asian descent to be nominated for Best Actress. Meanwhile, Quan was nominated for Best Supporting Actor after a long break from acting.

Meanwhile, Hsu, who played the main villain in the film, and Curtis both got nominated for Best Supporting Actress — an announcement that the latter was shocked about.

“THIS IS WHAT SURPRISE LOOKS LIKE!” she wrote on Instagram, along with photos of her reacting to the news. “The first is hearing my name, the thrill of my friend Stephanie’s name, the rest of the nominations, and then the best thing of all, a loving embrace for my husband.”

Curtis was filled with joy and excitement because of the news. She followed up her post with a nostalgic photo of her parents, Janet and Tony, at the 1960 Oscars, captioned with an emotional realization.

“It was never even in my wildest dream box. I have always felt like an outsider looking in and yet so grateful for any opportunities I have had. Being a part of this beautiful movie, which just received so many acknowledgments for our talented, motley crew of artists, is the highlight of my professional life,” she said. “I am stunned and humbled and excited for our little movie that could and did and, based on today’s nominations, continues to do and do and do.”

Aside from an Academy Award nomination, Curtis was also nominated at the British Academy Film Awards for Best Supporting Actress.
