In Retirement Transition, Jim Carrey Lists His 12,700 Sq Ft ‘Sanctuary’ For Sale At $28.9 Million.

Jim Carrey is a Canadian-American actor, comedian, and screenwriter who has made a significant contribution to the entertainment industry. Carrey was born on January 17, 1962, in Newmarket, Ontario, to a working-class family and developed an early interest in comedy.

Despite financial difficulties and personal tragedy, he persevered and rose to become one of his generation’s most recognizable and beloved comedic performers.

Carrey began stand-up comedy in his late teens and quickly became known for his energetic and unpredictable performances. He moved to Hollywood in the early 1980s in search of better opportunities, and he quickly caught the attention of producers and casting directors.

He made his feature film debut in 1990 with the comedy “Once Bitten,” but it was his role in the 1994 comedy “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective” that established him as a household name. Carrey’s energetic and over-the-top performance as the titular pet detective earned him praise from audiences and critics alike.

Carrey went on to have a successful comedic career, appearing in films such as “The Mask,” “Liar Liar,” and “Bruce Almighty” in the years that followed. His physical comedy and ability to embody a wide range of quirky and often larger-than-life characters earned him widespread acclaim, and his comedic style was frequently compared to that of classic performers such as Jerry Lewis and Charlie Chaplin.

He has also participated in charitable and humanitarian efforts, using his celebrity to raise awareness for causes such as mental health and environmental protection.

The 61-year-old actor, who was the first to earn $20 million for a film, is estimated to be worth $180 million. He’s now asking $28.9 million for his Los Angeles home.

Carrey’s personal life has been marked by tragedy and struggle, despite his success and widespread popularity. He has been candid about his depression struggles and difficult childhood, and he has used his platform to raise awareness about mental health issues and encourage others to seek help.

Carrey has also dabbled in new creative endeavors such as painting and writing. In 2011, he published “Memoirs and Misinformation,” a book that blended memoir and fiction to tell the story of his life and career. He has also continued to act, most recently in “Sonic the Hedgehog” and its 2022 sequel.

The impact Carrey has had on the entertainment industry cannot be overstated. He has become a beloved figure and an inspiration to countless aspiring performers due to his unique comedic style and ability to bring humor and joy to audiences all over the world. Carrey, on the other hand, announced his retirement from acting in April 2022. He told Access Hollywood that he was “fairly serious” about retiring and that he was “taking a break.”

He went on to say:

“I enjoy my quiet life, I enjoy painting on canvas, and I enjoy my spiritual life, and I feel like β€” and this is something you will never hear another celebrity say for the rest of time β€” I have enough. I’ve had enough. I am sufficient.”

Carrey is also physically moving away from the bright lights of the big city, having listed his Los Angeles home for sale.

In February 2023, it was reported that Carrey was selling the Brentwood home he had lived in for the previous 30 years for a cool $28.9 million. The sprawling estate includes a five-bedroom, nine-bathroom mansion with high ceilings, large windows that let in natural light, and rich hardwood flooring.

The chef’s kitchen features cutting-edge appliances such as a six-burner stove, double ovens, and a large island that doubles as a breakfast bar. There is also an art deco-style home theater in the mansion.

Aside from its stunning interior, the home has a lushly landscaped backyard that is ideal for relaxing and entertaining. On a total of 12,700 square feet, the main house is flanked by amenities such as a waterfall pool, hot tub, tennis court, sauna, and vegetable garden.

Carrey purchased the property in 1994, just before breaking out with “Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,” for $3.8 million (equivalent to $7.71 million today). According to Vanity Fair, Carrey told the Wall Street Journal that the house had been “a place of enchantment and inspiration” for him for more than “30 very creative and prosperous years,” but that it was time for a change.

“Every night, the owls sang me lullabies, and every morning, I sipped my cup of joe with the hawks and hummingbirds, under a giant grandfather pine,” he explained to the publication.

“It’s been a sanctuary for me for three decades, but I don’t spend as much time there now, and I want someone else to enjoy it like I have,” he said, adding a reference to a David Bowie song, “Cha cha cha cha… Changes!”
