In 1957 she bought a $69.95 wedding dress and got married in it

Janith Goedde marked her 60th wedding anniversary by celebrating with a large party that was hosted by her family… and by demonstrating that she can still fit into the wedding dress she wore 60 years ago.

The wedding took place on May 11th, 1957 in Haubstadt, Indiana. Joe and Janith were married there.

“I didn’t get to see her until she was walking down the aisle, and the entire time I was thinking to myself, “You’re way too young to get married.” I was 24,’” Joe laughed as he explained it to ABC News.

Janith looked stunning in a gown that clocked in at $69.95 at the time it was purchased. It was all laid out in great detail in the announcement of their wedding.

It said that the bride had chosen a floor-length gown made of imported Chantilly lace and nylon tulle over satin for her wedding, and that it was secured along the back with small concealed buttons.

“The Sabrina neckline was incorporated into the design of the fitted lace bodice, and pearlized sequins were used for the embroidery.

The cuffs of the long sleeves ended just above the wrists.”

Janith told ABC News that the only thing she did to preserve the garment was to put it in a plastic bag, but despite all of these years having passed, the dress is still white.

The grandparents now also have grandchildren of their own. “Communication and prayer,” according to Janith, who is now 80 years old, is the key to a happy and successful marriage.

To commemorate the occasion, the couple’s extended family hosted a big party for them and presented them with a cake that featured a snapshot from their wedding day.

She explained that Janith ended up putting on the old outfit after a long day of partying because she was too tired to change.

“When we arrived back at our house later that day, one of the girls commented, “I bet she can still get into her bridal gown.”

Where exactly is it?’ I pointed them in the direction of the attic where it was, and they went there to retrieve it. Therefore, I was required to put it on.”

Janith reported that it was somewhat constricting, but could still be worn. Alison, who is one of her granddaughters, is the one who tweeted out the picture.

When Joe saw her wearing the outfit again, he commented, “She still looks gorgeous,” in reference to her appearance.
