Gwyneth Paltrow shares the sad cause for her healthy lifestyle.

Goop’s founder has long been a proponent of healthy living.

Gwyneth Paltrow is certainly better known for her healthy lifestyle choices than for her films, but she wasn’t always the wellness champion she is today.

Her enthusiasm for health and fitness derives from a place of loss, according to the Avengers actress, who said that her late father’s throat cancer diagnosis in 1999 inspired her quest. “His treatment was extremely harsh,” the 47-year-old told Town & Country.

“I was thinking, almost desperate, that there had to be something else we could do to help him. That’s when I started looking into food and nutrition.” She said, “I truly feel that being alive is simply a process of figuring out how to positively impact the world if you’re not wasting your (expletive) life. You can engage in your life and participate in it, or you may withdraw and criticize everyone else in your area.”

Gwyneth’s dad Bruce Paltrow regrettably died in 2002 after having a heart attack following complications from throat cancer and pneumonia. Gwyneth told the Evening Standard about his death in 2005:

“I wasn’t tenacious enough to clean up his food and cure his disease.” She admitted that she was partly to responsible for his tragic death, adding: “Now I truly believe I could have improved his quality of life. However, I wasn’t as powerful as I could have been.”

The Goop creator is now sure she is on the correct route in terms of wellness, and she has a message for her detractors. She wrote in the magazine: “You can continue to oppose, but I’m on the right side of this.

I’m keeping an eye on the market. I’m watching what’s happening. Listening to yourself, tuning into what interests you, and trying new things are what I believe the wellness movement is all about. Find out what makes you happy and go from there.”
