Granddaughter of the Queen Is Employed at a “Near Minimum Wage” Job
According to the rumors, the granddaughter of the Queen spent the summer working at a garden center for a wage that was quite close to the minimum wage.
Lady Louise Windsor, who is the daughter of Prince Edward and Sophie, Countess of Wessex, accepted the position while she was waiting for the results of her A-levels.
The results were released yesterday, and they earned her a spot to study English at St. Andrews University in Scotland beginning in the fall.
She will go to the same university as her older cousin, Prince William, who earned a 2:1 in Geography there in 2005 and met Catherine, now the Duchess of Cambridge, while he was a student there.
She will therefore be following in her cousin’s footsteps.
A customer at the garden center where Louise, who is 18 years old, works made the following remark to another customer: “I knew the cost-of-living issue was awful, but I didn’t believe I’d ever see a grandchild of the Queen working in a garden center.”
After completing her A-levels in June, the royal reportedly started working at the center, the identity of which has not been disclosed, for multiple days each week after she graduated.
She reportedly assisted employees at the registers, greeted customers, and clipped and potted plants, among other responsibilities.
A customer who was assisted by the Granddaughter of the Queen, Lady Louise, was quoted in a tabloid as saying, “I couldn’t believe it was Lady Louise — I had to look twice.”
Although the current hourly minimum pay for those who are 18 years old is £6.83, it is unknown how much Louise, who is 16th in line to the throne, was paid for her work.
“Isn’t it fantastic that the Queen’s granddaughter rolled up her sleeves and got her hands dirty with a summer work before going to university – just like any other average teenager?” said Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, to the newspaper.
In June, Louise took part in a number of activities to commemorate the platinum jubilee of the Queen. One of these events was the Trooping the Colour parade, following which she made an appearance on the balcony of Buckingham Palace.
Additionally, she was present at the Service of Thanksgiving that was held at St. Paul’s cathedral. Both the Duke and Duchess of Sussex made an appearance at this event.
