Equestrian Star Georgie Campbell Dead at 37 After Falling Off Horse at Competition: ‘She Could Not Be Saved’
Campbell’s horse, Global Quest, “walked back to the stable and is uninjured,” British Eventing said
Equestrian star Georgie Campbell, 37, passed away on Sunday, May 26, during the Bicton International Horse Trials held in Devon, England. The tragedy struck when she fell off her horse.
“It is with the deepest regret that we announce that Georgie Campbell (GBR) suffered a fatal accident whilst competing,” stated British Eventing, the governing body of the equestrian sport of eventing in the UK.
“Medical professionals attended immediately following her fall at fence 5b. Unfortunately, she could not be saved,” the statement continued.
British Eventing shared that Campbell’s horse, Global Quest, walked back to the stable undamaged after veterinarians assessed the animal.
“To respect the family’s privacy at this extremely difficult and sad time, no further details will be shared,” British Eventing concluded in their message.
Georgie Campbell tied the knot with fellow event rider Jesse Campbell in December 2020. The couple frequently updated their Team Campbell Eventing Instagram account, sharing their adventures with Global Quest.
“Global Quest at his Best. George, owned by @morrishdiana was on serious form at Osberton to finish 🥉 in the 3* out of over 110 starters,” one recent post from May 5 read. Another highlighted their success: “Georgie’s boys were on fire with Global Quest and Speedwell jumping awesome double clears the 4*.”
The equestrian community expressed their sorrow over Campbell’s passing on social media. Prominent figures like Pippa Funnell and venues such as the Bicton Arena shared an image featuring three emojis: a white heart, a purple heart, and a dove carrying an olive branch.
“Our thoughts are with Georgie’s family and friends at this devastating time,” Bicton Arena mentioned in their heartfelt caption.
Many also posted condolences on Team Campbell Eventing’s Instagram. “Deepest condolences on the loss of Georgie. Praying for you to find comfort and peace in the days ahead,” one user wrote.
Another shared, “I’m just so so so devastated for you all. You are all in my thoughts and prayers x.”
