Despite Priscilla Presley’s Hesitations, Lisa Marie Presley wanted Riley Keough to carry on Elvis’ legacy.

Lisa Marie Presley was born on February 1, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, to parents Elvis Presley and Priscilla Presley. She was one of the most famous children at the time. Tragically, she died on Jan. 12, 2023, at 54, after being rushed to the emergency room after being discovered unresponsive in her California home.

Lisa was born nine months after her parents famously married in a brief ceremony in their suite at Las Vegas’ Aladdin Hotel. Following Elvis’ death in 1977, she was named as a beneficiary in her father’s will, alongside her grandfather Vernon and great-grandmother Minnie. Vernon died in 1979, and Minnie died a year later. As a result, Lisa was the only surviving beneficiary of Elvis’ trust. She inherited her father’s estate, which had grown to $100 million, in 1993.

She was Elvis’s only daughter, so her four children were his only grandchildren. Lisa had actress Riley Keough, her late son Benjamin Keough with her ex-husband Danny Keough, and twins Harper and Finley with her ex-husband Michael Lockwood. She was also famously married to Michael Jackson and Nicolas Cage, both of whom were pop stars.

Lisa inherited her father’s Memphis estate, Graceland, as the only child of the King of Rock and Roll. However, since her death, there has been much debate about who should carry on the Presley family legacy.

In a February 2023 interview, one of Lisa’s spokespeople stated that she wanted one of her daughters to take over the business. Continue reading to learn more about Lisa’s final wishes.

Joel Weinshanker, a Managing Partner at Elvis Presley Enterprises and one of Lisa’s spokespeople, appeared on Elvis Radio on Sirius XM to discuss the late singer’s final wishes.

After Lisa’s ashes were interred alongside her son Benjamin in Graceland, her mother, Priscilla, contested the “authenticity and validity” of a 2016 amendment to her will that named Riley as a co-trustee, according to Entertainment Tonight.

According to legal documents obtained by the outlet, Priscilla is claiming that the amendment that removed her from the will and installed Riley and Benjamin was “purported.”

Priscilla is challenging the will’s authenticity, claiming that the amendment or updated version of the will was never delivered to her before Lisa’s death – as required by the will – and that her name was even misspelled, and Lisa’s signatures appeared to be inconsistent with her customary signatures.

Weinshanker, on the other hand, weighed in, saying:

“When Elvis died, he left everything to his daughter. He did so, knowing that she would be the one to carry on his legacy. I can assure you that, regardless of what else was going on in her life or career, she was always the one who looked out for Elvis… regardless of what someone else was attempting, regardless of what another family member was attempting.”

Despite Priscilla’s objections to the will, Weinshanker confirmed that Lisa intended Riley and Benjamin to carry on the legacy.

Weinshanker stated emphatically in the same interview that Lisa was “very, very certain and quite direct about who she wanted to have the legacy (left) to.”

“That was always Riley and Ben. There was never any doubt in her mind that they would be the stewards, that they would look at it exactly the way she did,” Weinshanker continued. “Despite being a movie star, Riley is an award-winning director; she had always had an interest and knew that one day she would be in charge.”

Weinshanker also stated that in honor of Lisa’s upcoming 55th birthday on February 1, 2023, her wishes on who should carry on the legacy should be honored.

“But on Lisa’s birthday, we want to think about what Lisa would’ve wanted, and that’s what’s best for Elvis. She never doubted in her mind that that’s Riley. There’s no question on anyone’s mind (because) Lisa had spoken (about) it, there are numerous amounts of written information, she had talked to so many of her friends about it.

There was never any doubt, and anyone who says otherwise isn’t looking out for Elvis, Lisa, or Riley,” he continues.

Lisa was pronounced dead on Jan. 12, 2023, after being rushed to a Los Angeles hospital after her housekeeper discovered her unresponsive in her Calabasas, California, home. Her ex-husband Danny Keough was at the scene and performed CPR on her until emergency first responders arrived.

While paramedics attempted to resuscitate her, at least one dose of epinephrine was administered, and she was reported to have regained a pulse before being transported to the hospital.
