Lauren Wasser was raised in a family of models in California. Born on March 2, 1988, her natural affinity for the fashion industry was evident from a young age. She even made her debut in Vogue alongside her mother when she was just 4 months old.

She enjoyed a vibrant and active life, excelling as a basketball player and earning a prestigious athletic scholarship. Later, she chose a modeling career while still leading an active lifestyle.

However, at the age of 24, Lauren’s life took a drastic turn. She revealed in an interview, “I lost both of my legs because of a tampon.” TSS, caused by an excessive growth of Staphylococcus aureus bacteria, had a devastating impact on her health and led to the amputation of both her legs.

Fighting for Awareness and Safer Menstrual Products

Lauren Wasser has become a vocal advocate for TSS awareness and the promotion of safer menstrual products. She highlights the dangers of tampons, stating that they are made with harmful substances like chlorine bleach, dioxin, and synthetic fibers. Lauren collaborates with Madeline Mosby, a mother who lost her daughter to TSS, to bring about change in the industry.

A Triumphant Comeback

Despite the challenges she faced, Lauren Wasser made a triumphant comeback in the modeling world. She earned the nickname “the girl with the golden legs” and chose gold-toned prosthetics, embracing her new condition. Lauren believes in showcasing one’s scars and imperfections, spreading the message that everyone is beautiful in their own skin.
