Cher and Chaz: A Strained Relationship

Cher, the iconic singer and actress, may not be attending her son Chaz Bono’s upcoming wedding. Reports suggest that there is a growing feud between them, causing tension and distance between the two. For many, this comes as a surprise, as Cher has always been a strong supporter of the LGBTQ community, which includes her son Chaz.

Chaz, who was born during Cher’s marriage to Sonny Bono, has had a complex journey of self-discovery. At the age of 18, Chaz came out to his parents as a lesbian, which was a significant moment for him. He shared his experiences in his book, Family Outing: A Guide to the Coming Out Process for Gays, Lesbians, and Their Families. In the book, Chaz reveals that he always felt different as a child and struggled to understand the interest in fashion and boys like other girls his age.

Over time, Chaz realized that he was gay, marking another crucial milestone in his journey. Cher, however, initially had a hard time accepting Chaz’s sexual orientation. But as time went on, Cher’s love for her son transcended any previous reservations she may have had. In 2020, she spoke about how her initial concerns disappeared, highlighting her growth and acceptance.

Despite Cher’s support for the LGBTQ community and her evolving acceptance of Chaz, their relationship has faced numerous strains over the years. Now, as Chaz prepares to marry his fiancé Shara Blue Mathes, it seems that their connection has further deteriorated. Cher has made the decision not to attend the wedding, a decision that reflects the ongoing difficulties between them.

This decision follows Cher’s recent denial of conservatorship over her son Elijah Allman, who has battled addiction issues. Chaz has claimed that Cher objects to Elijah’s reconciliation with his wife, Marieangela King. The strained relationship between Cher and Elijah, along with the strained relationship between Chaz and Cher, has led both children to distance themselves from their mother.

According to sources, Chaz and Shara have chosen to remove Cher from the wedding guest list. They want a simple ceremony without any of Cher’s theatrics. It is evident that their strained relationship has led to these decisions, as they seek to distance themselves from any further complications.

This situation raises an important question: Should Chaz include his mother at his wedding, or is he right to remove her? We would love to hear your thoughts on this matter. Let us know in the comments below.
