Brooke Shields advised her daughter not to pursue modeling: “The rules have changed.”

Brooke Shields is fiercely protective of her kids, especially when Grier, her 17-year-old daughter, expressed a desire to pursue a modeling career in her mother’s footsteps.

Shields, 58, said the profession has changed since she was a model during her “Live with Kelly and Mark” appearance on Thursday.

Shields informed co-hosts, Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos, “The rules have changed since I was [a model].”

She said that although her daughter had done “little things here and there,” Grier could not be prevented from showing up.

Shields said of her daughter’s choice, “I fought it for so long. “Compared to before, the industry has changed so much.”

The “Pretty Baby” actress elaborated on how the profession had changed by stating, “We didn’t have social media when I was a model.”

According to Shields, the modeling industry has become “a rat race.”

Shields first made an appearance in a soap opera advertisement at the age of 11 months, before she could even walk. She acknowledged that she primarily worked as a print model but expressed concern that her “ridiculously stunning” daughter would become “interested in the runway.”

“That’s brutal, and backstage is just brutal,” added Shields. “I’ve never done a runway. I don’t believe I could have handled it.

The proud mother eventually “had to give in” to Grier pursuing a career in modeling, but she had some limitations for her.

“‘You’re going to listen to me, you’re going to have a fantastic work ethic, and it won’t be comfortable. Those are my guidelines. Grier heard from Shields. She further stated that Grier must enroll in college.

Shields appeared on the program to promote her documentary, “Pretty Baby: Brooke Shields,” which debuted on Hulu in April.

Shields talked about her early sexualization, her connection with her mother, her love life, and how her daughters weren’t happy that she made a documentary that was so frank about it.

Rowan Francis, 19, and Grier Hammond are shared by Shields and her husband, Chris Henchy.
