Al Roker will leave the Today Show again due to imminent surgery.

The beloved Today host was away from the show for over a month last year

Al Roker may have returned to the Today Show at the top of the new year following a weeks-long hiatus due to a hospital stint – but to stay, he needs to ensure he continues to be in tip-top shape.

The weatherman, 68, was previously away from the news desk for over a month at the end of last year after suffering from blood clots in his lungs and subsequent surgery.

Now, remaining candid, as always, about his health, he has given fans a new update concerning a separate health issue.

Al revealed to fans Tuesday morning that come April, he would have to spend more time away from the Today Show β€“ which he has been a part of for over two decades – due to another surgery.

In a post on Instagram, the beloved meteorologist explained that he has an upcoming knee replacement surgery that will help him get back to his usual walking routine.

Before his health dived in late 2022, Al was an avid walker, and fans could count on seeing a video update from him every day on his Instagram, chatting to the camera as he got into his routine of 10,000 steps a day.

As his knee replacement approaches, he shared on the social media platform that he is getting closer and closer to his old habits, sharing that he had finally surpassed his usual 10k steps.

He posted a snapshot of his Apple watch with all of the details. He wrote in the caption: “Yesterday was the #bestdayyet when it comes to my steps on this #bumknee before my #kneereplacementsurgery in late April,” adding: “Thanks to my #starttoday #family for the support!”

Deborah Roberts, his wife of 28 years, has taken the utmost care of her husband during and after his health woes, endearingly cautioned him: “Take it slow, sweetie!”

Fans also took to the comments section under the post to praise Al for his commitment, writing: “You are an inspiration!! Way to go, Al!!” and: “Al, you are an inspiration to many of us!! You bring us all joy on a daily basis!” as well as: “Al, I will be praying for you, and a successful surgery and full recovery,” plus another fan added: “You are an inspiration, Al Roker!”
