A Heartwarming Love Story

A Beautiful Tribute to a Beloved Wife

Janet and Winston Howes had a love that most people can only dream of. From the moment they met, their love grew stronger every day. Married in 1962, they moved into their charming farmhouse in the beautiful English countryside. Life was perfect!

The farm thrived, their relationship blossomed, and their son grew up healthy and strong. But tragedy struck when Janet suddenly passed away from heart failure at only 50 years old. Winston was devastated, and their son struggled without his mother. Healing was difficult, but Winston wanted to create a special place to honor Janet’s memory.

A Hidden Symbol of Love

Months after losing Janet, Winston had a beautiful idea. He decided to construct a meadow near their house, a place where he and his son could find solace on tough days. Little did he know that his incredible gesture would remain a secret for years.

Winston carefully planted thousands of trees in the shape of a heart. He surrounded it with majestic oak trees and built a hedge around it. The heart-shaped forest faced the village of Wotton Hill, Janet’s hometown. It became a symbol of enduring love and a lasting tribute to his late wife.

A Stunning Discovery from Above

One afternoon, as hot air balloonist Andy Collett flew over the area near Winston’s home, he couldn’t believe his eyes. Below him lay a massive heart-shaped forest, hidden from plain view. It was Winston’s secret tribute to Janet.

Andy was amazed by the sight and felt there had to be a remarkable love story behind it. Even though he had never met Winston, he sensed and appreciated the deep emotion and love that had gone into creating this breathtaking masterpiece.

A Place of Tranquility and Renewal

Winston took great care of the heart-shaped forest. Every year, he plants daffodils in the center of the heart which bloom in the spring, symbolizing renewal. It is a serene and beautiful tribute to his beloved wife.

Winston shared, emotionally, “I sometimes go down there, just to sit and think about things. It is a lovely and lasting tribute to her which will be here for years.”

Love Forever Remembered

Winston’s heart-shaped forest stands as a living testament to the enduring love he shared with Janet. It serves as a place for him and his son to remember her and for their love to continue to grow. Although nothing can bring Janet back, we can imagine that she would have adored this meadow.
