A journalist asks Cristiano Ronaldo a question about his mother

A journalist asks Cristiano Ronaldo:

“Why does your mother still live with you?

Why don’t you build her a house?”

Cristiano Ronaldo replies:

“My mother raised me and she dedicated her life to me. She would go to sleep hungry, just to let me eat. We had no money at all.

She worked 7 days a week and nights as a maid to buy my first shoes so I could be a player. All my success is dedicated to her and because of her and as long as she has a life, she will always be by my side, she has everything I can give.

She is my refuge and my greatest gift.”

Cristiano Ronaldo’s mother, Maria Dolores dos Santos Aveiro, was born in 1954 in the municipality of Funchal on the Portuguese island of Madeira. She worked as a cook and cleaning lady before marrying Ronaldo’s father, Jorge Mendes, in 1971. The couple had four children together: Cristiano, Hugo, Elma, and Liliana.

Maria Dolores is a loving and supportive mother to her children, always encouraging them to follow their dreams. She was particularly supportive of Cristiano’s career from an early age, accompanying him to training sessions and matches whenever possible.
