A Shelter Dog’s Hope: Finding a Forever Home
All shelter dogs dream of finding a loving home, but unfortunately, some dogs face repeated disappointment and begin to lose hope. This heart-wrenching story revolves around Rocky, a 3-year-old pit bull who has been let down time and time again. However, there is still hope for this lonely dog.
Rocky’s journey began in October 2022 when his family was evicted from their home and could no longer care for him. Since then, he has been under the care of Lollypop Farm, Humane Society of Greater Rochester. Despite being adopted out twice and having a few trial periods, Rocky has always found himself back at the shelter.
Communications specialist Lindsay Brewer explained that Rocky would thrive in an adults-only home as the only dog. Finding the perfect environment for him has been challenging, leading to more than a year of rejections and false starts. It’s taken a toll on Rocky, as seen in a heartbreaking photo posted by the shelter a few weeks ago.
In the photo, Rocky sits alone in his kennel, with his head hanging down as if devastated by another day of being passed over. The response to the photo has been overwhelming, with over 31,000 shares on Facebook and 600 comments. People were touched by Rocky’s story, and many expressed their wishes for him to find a home soon. Some even offered to pay his adoption fee.
In early December, there was a glimmer of hope when the shelter announced that Rocky was on adoption hold. However, it was later revealed that no adopters had worked out. But then, a few days later, the shelter posted an update stating that Rocky had been on an “adoption sleepover” since December 7. If all goes well, Rocky might finally have his forever home. In case things fall through, the shelter will update their post to indicate if they are still looking for adopters.
While Rocky has captured the hearts of many, Lollypop Farm reminds us that he is not the only dog longing for a home this holiday season. They urged people to consider adopting one of their other available dogs.
