Princess Charlotte Reacts as Mom Kate Middleton Receives Standing Ovation at Wimbledon

Princess Kate Middleton had a special guest with her at Wimbledon: her daughter, Princess Charlotte. It was a rare public appearance for Kate as she continues her cancer treatment.

Kate Middleton’s biggest fan might just be her daughter, Princess Charlotte.

The Princess of Wales stepped out at Wimbledon on July 14, looking radiant as ever. Despite her ongoing cancer treatment, she attended the men’s singles final with her 9-year-old daughter Charlotte and sister Pippa. It was a real family outing.

As they took their seats in the front row of the Royal Box, the crowd rose for a standing ovation. Princess Charlotte beamed with pride as her mom waved to the cheering crowd. It was a moving moment, and the applause spoke volumes.

Karwai Tang, the photographer who captured the moment, said, “When Kate usually comes in, she walks straight to her seat. But this time, she took it all in. For her to acknowledge the applause was special.”

Tang added, “It felt like she was back. Wimbledon had been waiting with bated breath for her return, and she was back.”

The camera also caught another heartwarming moment when Charlotte and Pippa returned to their seats after a break. Tang said, “Charlotte skipped down the stairs, laughing. She leaned over and shared a joke with her mom, and they both had a good laugh.”

It was clear the whole family was enjoying themselves. Charlotte, with her keen interest in the game, is following in her mother’s footsteps.

Princess Kate dazzled in a purple dress by Safiyaa, adorned with her bow tie pin representing the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte looked adorable in a polka dot blue dress, her hair styled in her signature half-up ‘do with two braids pinned back by a bow.

The royal family are Wimbledon regulars. Recently, they’ve started introducing their children to this traditional part of their summer calendar.

This was Princess Charlotte’s second time at the tournament. She made her debut last year, joining her parents and big brother Prince George, even rocking stylish sunglasses as she cheered on Carlos Alcaraz.

Prince George has attended Wimbledon twice as well. Last year, he even had the chance to hold Djokovic’s first-place trophy!

Meanwhile, 6-year-old Prince Louis has yet to make his Wimbledon debut, probably because he’s still too young. Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte attended when they were 8 years old.

The Royal Box at Centre Court is generally reserved for adults due to the high demand for the 74 seats, but exceptions are often made for royal children.

Prince William had to miss this year’s Wimbledon finals to support England’s soccer team in Germany. As the president of the Football Association, his cheering was essential as they faced Spain in the Euro 2024 championship game.

Though the Princess of Wales usually attends multiple days of Wimbledon each year, she has stayed out of the public eye recently due to her cancer treatment. Her recent appearance at Wimbledon came shortly after she was seen at Trooping the Colour, her first public outing since revealing her diagnosis.

Wimbledon organizers were hopeful Kate would attend and continue the tradition of handing out prizes this year. Club chair Debbie Jevans mentioned they would provide Kate with “as much flexibility as possible” regarding her presence.

The royal tennis fan has watched the tournament every year since marrying Prince William, except in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2013 when she was heavily pregnant with Prince George.
