The $50 Mansion: How a Typo in a Real Estate Ad Led to the Deal of a Lifetime
A young couple walks into a bank, grinning from ear to ear. Naturally, the bank manager knows they can’t afford a mansion on their shoestring budget.
“Where did you get the money for a mansion?” the bank manager asks in shock.
“We bought it yesterday,” replied the couple cheerfully.
“With what money?” the manager demands. “We know the market rates, and you couldn’t possibly afford a mansion!”
“Well, it was a typo,” says the couple, “This one cost us $50.”
“Who on earth would list a mansion for 50 dollars?!”
“The real estate agent over on Fifth,” the couple replies. “We thought it was a mistake too, but it turned out the owner wanted to teach his ex-wife a lesson in the most expensive way possible.”
The bank manager, puzzled and amused, leans in closer, “And what lesson was that?”
The couple smiles wide, glancing at each other before replying, “That sometimes the costliest mistakes come not just from what you sell, but from hitting the wrong key on your keyboard. It’s safe to say, in the world of real estate, it’s not just location, location, location—it’s also proofreading, proofreading, proofreading!”
