Tony Bennett’s family has revealed the jazz legend’s final words and the song he sang before passing away.

Danny Bennett, Tony Bennett’s son, and Susan Benedetto, Tony Bennett’s wife, are opening up about their final moments with the late jazz superstar before he died on July 21.

On Thursday, the two spoke with Today’s Hoda Kotb for the first time since Tony’s death nearly two weeks ago.

“His last words to me (were), ‘Thank you,'” Danny told Kotb. “Can’t say it any better than that.”

Tony’s eldest son is Danny, whom he shares with his ex-wife Patricia Beech.

Susan, who married Tony in 2007, described how, despite his Alzheimer’s diagnosis, “the music never left him.”

His family confirmed in 2021 that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease in 2016.

Tony’s family expected the legend’s career to stop, but that was not the case.

“However, Tony is like, ‘I don’t know what you’re talking about.'” I want to keep singing, you know.”

Tony soldiered on and continued to compose music despite the condition, which gradually robs people of their memory and other vital brain skills.

Most notably, he worked with Lady Gaga. One Last Time, their final concert together, was held in 2021. This was also Tony’s final performance.

While he may have given his final public performance in 2021, he continued to sing till the very end.

Susan said that the last song he performed was “Because of You,” his first success.

“That he loved me,” Susan remembered Tony telling her as he was dying. “He would wake up every day and still say that,” she explained. “He woke up happy every day.”

Tony Bennett was a living legend. He will never be replaced as an artist. We lost one of our finest players.

Rest in peace, Tony.
