Dick Van Dyke Suffered ‘Minor Injuries’ in Malibu Automobile Accident: Cops

Police confirm that Dick Van Dyke had “minor injuries” after ramming his automobile into a gate in Malibu, California, on Wednesday, March 15.

According to officials, the 97-year-old actor was driving a silver 2018 Lexus LS 500 when the vehicle slipped into the building. Rainfall in the area has been at an all-time high.

Paramedics treated Van Dyke at the site, police say; however, he was not transferred to the hospital. The first to report the mishap, the Mary Poppins legend’s nose and mouth were bleeding, and he may have sustained a concussion.

The actor was last seen on the small screen in February when he was unmasked on the season 9 premiere of The Masked Singer.

“I had never even seen the show when they asked me. So I went to check it out, and it looked like a lot of fun,” he said after leaving the Fox series. “I was confident they wouldn’t figure out who I was. And I was correct!”

Van Dyke performed Frank Sinatra’s “When You’re Smiling” on the show, a song choice he attributes to his wife, Arlene Silver. “They wanted me to make something contemporary, and I know nothing about rock,” Van Dyke said. “So we chose one that best represents me. She came up with it, and I also enjoyed the music.”

What else can Van Dyke ascribe to Silver? The reason he’s remained a child at heart.

In an interview with Yahoo! Entertainment last month, Van Dyke revealed his secret to keeping young to his 51-year-old wife, whom he married in 2012. “Having a lovely young wife half my age to care for me β€” that works!” he added, adding that genes and avoiding pessimism also help. “I derive my cheerful outlook from my wife.”

Van Dyke and Silver enjoy singing around the house, according to Van Dyke. “Every day, my lovely wife sings,” he remarked. “Most of the day, there are a lot of duets going on around the home.”

During the epidemic, Silver taught herself some of Van Dyke’s favorite songs. “I learned every piece of music he knows so I can keep him singing,” she explained. “Every show tune, every classic. I now know all of them and had never met them before.”
