Dean Cain gave up his work to raise his son alone, vowing not to be like his own father, who abandoned him.

Dean Cain never met his father, who left the family when Dean was only two years old. So when he discovered he would be a parent, he made an unprecedented decision for a leading man in Hollywood.

Dean Cain is most known for his portrayal of the beloved character Superman. He is also an actor, producer, and TV program host.

Once he established himself in the film industry, roles poured in, and he solidified his spot beneath the Hollywood sky.

However, there came the point in this actor’s life when he felt compelled to choose between his professional career and spending more time with his son Christopher, and he ultimately picked the letter.

Dean, born in Michigan on July 31, 1966, has never met his biological father, who was Japanese. Dean was only two years old when his father, Roger Tanaka, abandoned the family and never returned.

Dean’s mother remarried a year later, and her new husband, filmmaker Christopher Cain, legally adopted Dean and his brother. Dean then assumed his adoptive father’s surname as his own.

Dean swore he would never be the type of father his biological father turned out to be when his then-girlfriend, Samantha Torres, a former model and Playboy companion, gave birth to their kid. Instead, he made a vow to himself that he would always be available for Christopher, whom he named after his adoptive father.

Unfortunately, Dean and Samantha divorced shortly after the birth of their son, and they struggled over custody. Dean eventually became the only custodian.

Dean is the type of father that never misses an important occasion in his children’s lives. He even prepares meals for Christopher. “I prepare all of my child’s meals. If I don’t cook, he doesn’t eat. I make an excellent steak. I’m also very good at taking the nine leftovers I have and turning it into something,” the actor revealed during an interview.

No matter what comes along the way, whether that is a tempting role or another professional engagement, Dean always puts his son’s needs on the top of the list of priorities.

It wasn’t until Christopher turned 18 that Dean started working on and off the screen again. “I’m there, a very present father, and I would never do it otherwise. I’m blessed to be able to have the ability to do so many different things and yet still be a father first,” he said.

The two are spending plenty of quality time together and taking many trips. Christopher has two half-siblings from his mother, Elijah, and Isabelle, who often stop by the Chain household.

“I’d do anything for those two. It can be defined as a broken home, but if you hang out at our house, that’s the last thing you’ll think,” Dean said of his ex’s children. “My best day would be just to wake up, and me and my son have a great day at home,” he added.

Dean Chain truly is a parent every child would ask for.
