A 31-year-old man encourages his sick 89-year-old neighbor to move in with him.

An 89-year-old woman was nearing the end of her life in a lonely care facility when a 31-year-old actor extended his compassionate hand. When her children could not be found, this young man with no biological tie to her stepped up and took on the enormous burden of caring for her…

When Chris Salvatore, 31, moved into a new apartment in 2013, he first met 85-year-old Norma Cook and her cat Hermes. It all started with a greeting, and after Chris introduced himself, they became fast friends. Chris was always willing to assist his elderly neighbor with her errands and was always there to her anytime she required assistance.

Norma’s health began to deteriorate as she approached age 89, and she ended herself in the hospital. The only option for her to return home was to have round-the-clock help. However, her chances of going home were poor because she had no one to care for her.

Chris decided to intervene after learning what was going on. He was the one person on whom Norma could rely, and he didn’t want to let her down. So Chris created a GoFundMe page and raised $25,000 in only seven hours. A month later, the campaign had raised $50,000, but because 24-hour healthcare is expensive, Chris knew he needed a long-term answer.

“The only other choice was for her to enter a facility,” he explained TODAY. “I couldn’t do that to someone who reminds me of my grandmother.”

As a result, Chris invited Norma to live with him. “I’m so grateful that I was able to give her the gift of spending her final days at home,” Chris added. “I can’t imagine what it’s like to go through the end of your life at a hospital without your friends or pets.”

Norma passed away in February 2017, but she spent her final days knowing she was loved and cared for.

Chris shared the sad news with his followers on his Instagram, where he would post photos and videos of him and his “granny” having fun by watching the news, talking, and eating peanuts.

“She referred to me as the granddaughter she never had,” Chris recalled of Norma.

What a caring and considerate young man. God bless you for what you did for your neighbor.
