Will Smith is still dealing with the fallout from his Chris Rock face-slapping Oscars moment, which made headlines, and now he’s been dealt another challenging situation.
The terrible occurrence has caused a number of the Men in Black actors’ projects to be put on hold, and the comedy This Joka is the most recent to do so.
Will served as executive producer of the Roku program, which sadly has not received a second season order.
Even though the streaming service reportedly stated that the cancellation had “nothing to do with the Oscars event,” it comes at a challenging moment for the celebrity.
The Hollywood Reporter claims that Netflix has stopped making the suspenseful film Fast and Loose, in which he was slated to play a mafia lord who loses his memory.
The publication also claimed Sony had halted work on Bad Boys 4 and that Apple TV+ would not comment on the 2022 movie Emancipation.
Will has been prohibited from attending Academy events for the ensuing ten years due to the terrible Oscars incident.
The Academy also issued a statement expressing regret about how the incident was handled: “We would like to convey our sincere appreciation to Mr. Rock for handling the matter so coolly. We particularly appreciate the calm and grace shown by our hosts, nominees, presenters, and winners during our telecast.”
“I embrace and respect the Academy’s decision,” Will, who earned a standing ovation on the night and won the Best Actor award for King Richard, said in response.
Will also expressed his feelings about his acts in an emotional message when he resigned from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
“I have immediately reacted to the Academy’s notice of the disciplinary hearing,” he declared. “And I completely intend to take all repercussions for my actions.
“My behavior at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony was startling, agonizing, and unacceptable. I have injured many people, including Chris, his family, many of my personal friends and loved ones, everyone present, and audiences around the world watching at home. I violated the Academy’s confidence.”
He went on: “I denied other nominees and winners the chance to honor and be honored for their outstanding efforts. I’m devastated.”
“I want to shift the spotlight back to those who merit recognition for their accomplishments and give the Academy a chance to resume the amazing job it does to encourage originality and artistic expression in film,” she said.
Will stated the following in his conclusion: “I am leaving the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as a result, and I agree to take any further action the Board deems necessary. I’m dedicated to putting in the effort necessary to ensure that I never again allow violence to triumph over reason. Change takes time.”
