Man, 100, and Woman, 102, Get Married in Retirement Home Where They Met: ‘Lucky to Have Found Each Other’
Littman’s granddaughter Sarah Sicherman said the elderly couple were “so lucky to have found each other” and “support” each other.
It’s never too late to find love! A delightful elderly couple in Philadelphia proved just that.
Meet Marjorie Fiterman, a sprightly 102-year-old, and Bernie Littman, a youthful 100. They recently got married on Sunday, May 19, at the very retirement home where their hearts first met nearly a decade ago.
Their love story began at a fun-filled costume party at the assisted living facility. Coincidentally, their first date fell on the same day one of Bernie’s great-granddaughters was born. How serendipitous!
According to Bernie’s granddaughter, Sarah Sicherman, their whole family was elated when they learned about Bernie’s new companionship. Sarah expressed, “We were thrilled that he found someone to share activities and spend time with, especially during such trying times, like the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Bernie had previously enjoyed a 65-year marriage with his late wife, Bernice. His decision to remarry came as a bit of a surprise to his family, who had assumed they would continue their lives without such significant changes.
Rabbi Adam Wohlberg, who watched their love story blossom over the years, shared that Bernie and Marjorie hadn’t initially planned on getting married. But eventually, they felt becoming husband and wife was the right next step.
On their wedding day, Rabbi Wohlberg chose to skip the usual marriage advice. He acknowledged that the couple already possessed a lifetime of wisdom and their relationship was deeply rooted and well-understood.
During the ceremony, Rabbi Wohlberg remarked, “What you love about each other won’t change. Your attitudes, feelings, and opinions are already well-formulated.”
He also had words for Marjorie, who had been married to her late husband, Morris, until his passing in 1999. Rabbi Wohlberg noted how Bernie’s presence brought a special spark to her life.
Interestingly enough, Bernie and Marjorie might have crossed paths decades earlier! Both attended the University of Pennsylvania around the same time but were in different departments, so they likely didn’t know each other back then.
There’s even talk of the couple possibly being featured on the cover of their alumni magazine’s next edition!
At a combined age of 202 years, Bernie and Marjorie might have set a new Guinness World Record. The previous titleholders were Doreen and George Kirby from England, who wed at a combined age of 194 years back in 2015.
According to Sarah Sicherman, the Guinness World Record application is in progress, and if approved, they will hold the record for the Oldest Aggregate Age Couple to Marry by about eight years.
