14-Year-Old Shelter Dog Finally Finds His “Forever Home,” Melting Hearts

The internet has been moved by a social media video showing a 14-year-old blue heeler puppy who had spent his entire existence at a breeding factory being adopted by a family.

A family who got into contact with the Australian Animal Protection Society (AAPS), an animal shelter located in Melbourne’s Keysborough neighborhood, decided to rehome Angus the dog after it had been saved from the breeding facility.

An official from the sanctuary told Newsweek that “Angus, or Gus for short, had spent his entire life in a breeding facility before he was finally rescued and transferred to us.”

He had untreated arthritis, a skin condition, a very sore and ulcerated eye, terrible dental problems, and untreated skin disease when he entered our care. He had heart disease, which was also shown to be in its early stages. With all these pre-existing issues, we were aware that rehoming him would be challenging, but we still wanted to offer him the best life we could and give him the best opportunity of finding a permanent home, they continued.

A popular TikTok video, which can be viewed here, describes how the caring family adopted Angus after he was placed in their custody. But Angus’ journey from the shelter to a forever home wasn’t without its challenges.

According to the spokeswoman for the shelter, “In total, Angus had spent over 100 days in the shelter and between 3 and 4 weeks in foster care during his time.” “He spent 137 days under the AAPS’s care.”

The TikTok video, which has amassed over 220,000 views online, reveals that Angus had spent about five months in the care of the shelter prior to relocating with his new family.

The AAPS representative admitted that Angus was “the sweetest dog,” and that he would have made a wonderful addition to any household, but it didn’t come as a surprise to them.

“He also adored everyone around him and got along well with other dogs. He enjoys playing in the water, and since his new family lives close to the beach, he can happily do so constantly,” they continued.

Although the shelter had already spent thousands of Australian dollars on the pup’s medical recuperation and veterinary treatment, the AAPS chose not to impose an adoption fee in light of the Angus’ present family’s enthusiasm for taking him home.

“In the end, we were unable to place a value on how exceptional he is. He is irreplaceable to us, the speaker concluded.

Over 32,000 TikTok users have loved the video since it was posted on the social media platform on May 6 by @AAPS_Victoria, the shelter’s official TikTok account. In the comments area underneath the post, more than 600 users expressed their joy at Angus’ adoption.
